Jamie Carragher urges Mohamed Salah to ‘think again’ about exit

Jamie Carragher has told Mohamed Salah to put his differences with Arne Slot aside and stay at Liverpool until the end of the season.

Salah said after Liverpool’s draw with Leeds last week that he has ‘no relationship’ with Slot and suggested that the Reds’ win over Brighton could have been his final game for the cub.

That would suggest that a January departure could happen, which would bring his eight-and-a-half year stay at the club to an end. Carragher, though, has told Salah that he should be waiting until the end of the season to leave.

‘I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season,’ former Reds defender Carragher said on Sky Sports. ‘The big thing in my mind is, are we going to see Mo Salah from now until the end of the season?

‘If he’s thinking of moving on, I would urge him to think again. And the reason I say that is, if Mo Salah is to move from Liverpool now, the talk is he would go to the Saudi League.

‘Liverpool in the second half of the season could get to the FA Cup final, the Champions League final. Can you imagine Mo Salah in Saudi watching Liverpool come out in Budapest in the Champions League final?

Carragher (pictured) has said that the Reds forward should hang around until the summer to get the send-off he deserves

‘He deserves a guard of honour, he deserves a mosaic in the Kop. He deserves to bring his wife and kids on the pitch in his last game and actually celebrate him for what he’s done as a Liverpool player.

‘So put your differences with the manager aside for four months and get this great big send-off.’

Carragher has been one of Salah’s biggest critics in recent times, accusing the Egyptian of ‘failing to understand the psychology of Liverpool’s die-hard fans’ following his outburst.

The ex-defender-turned-pundit, 47, branded Salah’s actions ‘a disgrace’ in a much talked about eight-minute segment on Monday Night Football last week after the Egyptian gave an explosive interview saying he’d been ‘thrown under the bus’.

And, a few days later, he took another swipe at Salah, saying the 33-year-old miscalculated the impact his interview after the 3-3 draw at Leeds would have.

In his Telegraph column, Carragher wrote: ‘If Mohamed Salah’s intention with his grumble in the huddle at Elland Road was to weaken Slot, he must now concede that his misguided actions have had the opposite effect.

‘The chief reason for Salah’s miscalculation is his failure to fully understand the psychology of the club’s hardcore fanbase.

‘In a choice between a title-winning Anfield manager and a multi-title-winning footballer, the coach wins every time.’

Salah was recently reintegrated into the Liverpool team after speaking out against manager Arne Slot (pictured)

Salah had played only 45 minutes in three games when he decided to go nuclear and claim he has ‘no relationship’ with Slot during the extraordinary interview.

Slot then left Salah at home while the rest of the squad travelled to Inter Milan in the Champions League and earned a superb and hard-fought 1-0 win at San Siro.

He came off the bench against Brighton at the weekend, providing an assist for Hugo Ekitike to score the second goal of the 2-0 win.
