Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea were fortunate to not concede a second penalty against Liverpool.

Arne Slot’s side took the lead from Mohamed Salah’s spotkick just before the half hour mark after Levi Colwill brought down Curtis Jones.

Jones was involved in yet another incident when he went down following a collision with Blues goalkeeper Robert Sanchez in first half additional time.

Referee John Brooks immediately pointed to the spot to hand Liverpool an opportunity to double their lead.

However, the official was sent for an on field VAR review and overturned his decision after deeming Sanchez had made contact with the ball before making contact

Robert Sanchez collided with curtis Jones and Liverpool were awarded a second penalty

The decision was overturned as the goalkeeper was deemed to have touched the ball first

Jamie Carragher believes Sanchez 'get enough of the ball' and the penalty should have stood

Former Reds defender Carragher said on Sky Sports: ‘I think Chelsea are fortunate. The second angle it looks like it’s not a penalty.

‘I don’t think the goalkeeper gets enough of the ball. Getting a touch and completely taking someone out is not enough. I think Chelsea are very fortunate.’

Ex-Chelsea and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge added: ‘Initially I thought it was going to overturned.

‘Jones is holding off, it gives the opportunity for a collision to happen. That looks like a pen, the other angle it doesn’t.’

Chelsea got on level terms three minutes after the break thanks to Nicolas Jackson’s clinical finish.

But Jones poked the ball past Sanchez to regain Liverpool’s lead just three minutes later and earn his side all three points at Anfield.
