Jack Whitehall’s wedding venue is ordered to close after noise row

The stunning country estate where Jack Whitehall and Roxy Horner held their £250,000 wedding has been ordered to shut after neighbours complained their picturesque village had been turned into ‘Malaga’.

The comedian and his new model bride hired the luxury 17th-century estate Euridge Manor in Wiltshire for their nuptials on Saturday.

They said ‘I do’ during an outdoor ceremony surrounded by a host of famous guests including Jamie Redknapp and his wife Frida, actor Douglas Booth, David Gardner and businessman Gabe Turner.

The 450-acre estate, owned by John Robinson, founder of clothing giant Jigsaw, hosts weddings and private parties throughout the year.

But locals have become fed up with the noise and traffic the posh parties generate with Wiltshire council imposing strict planning conditions for the site aimed at reducing the levels of noise emanating from the complex.

However, Mr Robinson’s company Euridge Manor Weddings, challenged the council’s conditions, claiming they were ‘unreasonable’ and ‘inconsistent’, launching an appeal with the government’s Planning Inspectorate eight months ago.

The company suggested a series of proposals to reduce the the impact of noise on villagers, including banning brass instruments, drums and bagpipes from being played outdoors.

Despite the proposals, the Planning Inspectorate dismissed the appeal ruling that the venue must cease all operations by May 17.

Locals were jubilant after hearing news of the inspectorate’s decision.

One who asked not to be named said: ‘We’ve had to put up with noise and huge volumes of traffic from Euridge Manor for a decade. I’ve been unable to get a good night’s sleep at least two or three times a week due to these posh yobs with too much money and too little class.

‘Mr Robinson has turned a beautiful, peaceful village into Malaga. We’ve all had enough of him and his ridiculous wedding venture. This is not the place for these events.

‘The racket makes our lives hell. It’s time Mr Robinson read the room and called every wedding he’s got booked off.’

Another added: ‘Even last weekend Mr Whitehall and his guests made a lot of noise during the later afternoon and early evening. There was whooping and cheering and amplified speeches.

‘This is supposed to be a unspoilt and tranquil rural area. We are fed up with sometimes two weddings a week with generates excess traffic, jeering, swearing and music all hours of the day and night.’

Councillor Mel Jacob, Deputy Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: ‘We have a duty to protect our communities, and this decision supports the council’s consistent approach throughout this complex case.

‘We remain committed to supporting and working with local businesses, but we must ensure that development and commercial activities operate responsibly and in a way that respects our rural communities and residents. It is simply not fair that residents should have to put up with excessive noise as the result of the absence of a legally enforceable Noise Management Plan.

‘The Planning Inspectorate has agreed that the revised Noise Management Plan did not yet meet the necessary standard and so the planning permission conditions come into effect and the venue must stop operations.

‘We will continue to closely monitor the site, and where breaches occur, we will consider our options and where appropriate, take enforcement action.’

With only 30 days to go to possible closure, Mr Robinson, a friend of the Middleton family who played a key role in the romance of Prince William and Kate, is facing a financial disaster.

In another twist, Mr Robinson and farm manager Charles Williams are still due to stand trial for animal cruelty. The pair have submitted application for the charges, relating to sick and dead sheep, to be thrown out.

Princess Margaret dined at Mr Robinson’s villa, Hibiscus, on Mustique. But despite his Royal connections he is not a popular figure in Wiltshire.

He purchased Euridge in 1980, then a 200 acre estate, a five bedroom farmhouse, assorted outbuildings and three cottages. He set about a major restoration and upgrade and bought a further 250 adjoining acres.

Mr Robinson himself has hosted a country fayre and a summer ball in the past which was attended by the local community. And he held his own marriage to now ex-wife Belle there with a gigantic – and controversial – firework display.

In 2015, things started to go downhill after he registered the events business and noise levels rocketed. Even last weekend, cries of ‘shagger’ aimed at Whitehall could be heard ringing across the valley.

The details of Whitehall’s lavish nuptials were published in Vogue with the bride showing her two designer Galia Lahav gowns -which are thought to have cost up to £16,000 each.

She told the publication of her dresses: ‘I ended up choosing one of the first I tried on. Well, two…’.

Blonde beauty Roxy – who shares daughter Elsie with Jack – changed into her second dress for the party and also had a veil from the designer, while adding Alaïa’s Le Coeur heels and jewellery from Roxanne Assoulin.

She also wore her grandmother’s engagement ring, saying: ‘She handed it down to me when she passed away, which was so special.’

The groom started the wedding day in a Tom Ford suit but later had to change after a wardrobe malfunction.

He explained to the publication: ‘I squatted down to pick up Elsie and my trousers split, my whole a** was hanging out.’

Elsie was one of three flower girls on the day and sweetly shouted ‘daddy daddy’ when she got to the end of the aisle – where Jack was waiting in tears.

After having her makeup done by Nikki Wolff and her hair styled by her sister Josie, Roxy was ready to walk down the aisle with her dad.

After the ceremony, the party was catered for by Jimmy Garcia, while their wedding cake was a multi-tier vanilla sponge from Hall of Cakes.

The couple and their friends and family then partied until 2am along with a sea of famous faces including Joshua and Lottie Kane.

The couple will soon be jetting to Venice for their honeymoon.

A spokesperson for the Planning Inspectorate said: ‘The Appeal decision was issued on April 16th. As such, it is still within the six week period during which the decision can be challenged in the High Court if it is felt that there has been an error in law in making the decision. It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further.’

Euridge Manor Weddings have been contacted for comment.
