At least two people have been killed while two police officers were wounded following a ten-minute gun battle outside the Israel consulate in Istanbul today.
Footage showed a police officer pulling out a gun and taking cover as gunshots were heard. One person was seen covered in blood.
Two bodies lay on nearby streets and grassy areas. Local media reported that two police officers had been injured in the incident, which occurred immediately outside a tower where the Israeli consulate is located in Istanbul’s financial district.
Since the Hamas-Israel war began in 2023, a heavily armed police presence has been maintained in the area near the Israeli consulate.
A source with knowledge of the matter said there were no Israeli diplomats stationed in Turkey at present.
It comes after Israel issued a chilling warning to the people of Iran, telling them that using trains or going near railway lines will put their lives in danger.
The IDF told Iranians via its Persian-language account on X that they should avoid using public transport until 9pm, Tehran time, several hours before Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
‘Your presence on trains and near railway lines endangers your life’, the Israeli military warned.
Israel has played a key role alongside the US in the war in the Middle East, which began on February 28 after both nations launched strikes against Iran.
Since then, the conflict has grown in scale, violence and complexity, with global economies now suffering greatly thanks to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, an important waterway that is vital to the trade of oil and gas.
Trump’s patience for the conflict appears to be rapidly thinning. At a chaotic press conference at the White House last night, he said he was ‘not at all’ concerned about possibly committing war crimes after he threatened to destroy Iran’s bridges and power plants if Tehran did not meet his deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by 8pm EST.
And confidence in Trump’s ability to quickly end the war appears to be waning.
Brent crude, the international standard, rose to about $111 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate – the US’ standard – rose to $115 per barrel, its highest level in a month.
Global markets have been betting that skilled diplomacy will see the conflict draw to a close soon, but peace talks have so far made little headway.

Israel issues chilling warning to Iranians telling them not to use any trains
The IDF today issued a chilling warning to Iranians, telling the nation’s citizens to stay away from all trains and train lines.
It said via its Persian-language account on X: ‘For the sake of your security, we kindly request that from this moment until 21:00 Iran time, you refrain from using and travelling by train throughout Iran’.
‘Your presence on trains and near railway lines endangers your life’.
The warning comes several hours before the deadline for Trump’s deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

European airports are running out of fuel
Airports across Europe are running out of fuel, amid the global oil crisis caused by the US and Israel’s war with Iran.
At Brindisi Airport in southern Italy, kerosene will not be available until at midday on Wednesday at the earliest.
Others in Italy have introduced fuel rationing. In Reggio Calabria, a maximum fuel quota has been introduced, while in Pescara, only a single tanker with limited capacity is available.

Iran and Hezbollah attacks hospitalise 133 in Israel in 24 hours
Israel’s health ministry said that 133 people were hospitalised across the country between 7am yesterday and 7am today.
Of these 133 people, five are in a moderate condition, one is in a critical condition and 127 are in a mild condition.
Iran attacks Saudi petrochemical plant
Iran has attacked a petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia’s Jubail industrial city, located in the Eastern province.
The Saudi government communications office, state oil giant Aramco and its petrochemicals subsidiary SABIC did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.

Iran vows to keep fighting US and Israel over ‘strategic asset’ Strait of Hormuz
Iran said today that the Strait of Hormuz was a strategic asset that it vowed to keep fighting for.
Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said the waterway is ‘a bestowed advantage that we must make full use of.’
She added that Iran has done well so far in resisting militarily superior enemies, adding: ‘Our strength is that we have resisted 10 times more than they expected.
‘We will resist for as long as necessary.’

Hezbollah attacks leave three injured in Israel’s north
Israeli officials said Hezbollah attacks in the northern city of Nahariya have left three people injured.
The IDF separately that search and rescue teams have been deployed to a site in northern Israel where reports of an impact were made.
Two children among 18 killed in strikes in Iran’s Alborz province
Iranian media on Tuesday reported that 18 people, including two children, were killed in strikes in Alborz province neighbouring the capital.
A deputy governor of Alborz province said US-Israeli strikes hit residential areas and that ‘the deaths of 18 of our fellow citizens have been confirmed, including two young children’, the judiciary’s Mizan Online website and the Fars news agency reported.
Twenty-four people were wounded in the early morning attack, the deputy governor added.
Iran’s government has not released an updated overall casualty toll for the war in recent days.
Due to reporting restrictions, the Daily Mail is not able to access the sites of strikes to independently verify tolls in Iran.
The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said on April 6 that at least 3,597 people had been killed, including 1,665 civilians – among them at least 248 children – as well as 1,221 military personnel and 711 people whose status had not been classified.
