I was on MAFS UK – what they put me through should be ILLEGAL

A former contestant on Married At First Sight UK has hit out at the show after having a MUCH better experience on Dating Naked. 

Luke Worley, 32, who appeared on the Channel 4 series in 2023, said he wouldn’t recommend Married At First Sight ‘to his worst enemy’.

But he was full of praise for dating in his birthday suit for Rylan Clark’s Paramount+ show, Dating Naked, and said that he and the entire cast were well looked after by the production crew. 

The reality TV hopeful was forced to leave MAFS early after a fight broke out between him and another cast member and claims that all was not as it seemed on the show, which saw him receive death threats. 

Luke declared: ‘MAFS is hectic. Although the welfare team were great, it’s above them where the problems start. I wouldn’t recommend MAFS to my worst enemy.’

As its name suggests, Dating Naked involves getting to know potential partners in your birthday suit and has been pitched as the naked Love Island. 

Luke claims that the producers’ desire for an entertaining show comes at the expense of the participants themselves, who he claims are often portrayed in a false light.  

He said: ‘The worst part of the show is definitely the editing team. The way they edit that show should be illegal. It is so bad.’ 

Calling out the producers for allegedly creating their own narrative, Luke said that conversations he had on the show were inserted into different moments to misrepresent what he was saying.  

‘The way that was edited was not right,’ he explained. ‘They subbed words out from previous conversations and added them into other conversations to make me say things I didn’t actually say. 

‘I noticed it in one scene because the sound was so different. It was like they pulled it from one clip and put it into another. That sort of thing is really bad.’  

Luke said that one particularly bad example of the alleged practice saw his footage edited to make it appear like he said he would cheat, if given the opportunity. 

‘That is so wrong because it goes fully against everything I believe in. I’ve never cheated and I never would,’ he admitted.

Luke said that he wants people to know how detrimental reality TV can be to people’s mental health, as he claims to have received death threats following his appearance on Married At First Sight.  

He said: ‘When they’re not showing someone in their true light, especially when it’s something so dramatic, that should be against the law. 

‘TV shows shouldn’t be allowed to edit it as much as they do. It harms people’s mental health.

‘I was getting genuine death threats. Shows like this put people at risk and I get it, they have to make it entertaining, but when you’re putting someone at risk, that should be illegal.’

While Luke acknowledged that there were psychologists on MAFS, he said there are no preventative measures in place to stop contestants from needing them. 

‘They have psychologists on set but they don’t prevent them from needing them. It’s like they’ve got them there because they know we’re going to need them because of what they are going to put us through,’ he said. 

Luke described the company behind MAFS, CPL Productions, as the ‘worst’ compared to working with Paramount. 

He continued: ‘I spoke about this on a podcast and CPL said they will make sure I won’t work with any other TV production again. They tried to threaten me because I was speaking the truth.’

‘As long as companies look after me and they do things right, which other companies have, especially Nest, they were unbelievable and so were Paramount. If it goes right then I won’t have the need to speak up.’

The star declared: ‘I wouldn’t recommend MAFS to anyone, and if I was going to recommend it, I’d say don’t go on there for love; go on there to get your 15 minutes of fame. 

‘Get as many followers as you can, and make as much money as you can, because ultimately, it’s a load of c**p.’

While Luke’s marriage to Jay Howard initially got off to a promising start on the show, it wasn’t long before cracks began to show. 

The couple split weeks after the show began to air in November 2023.
