Holly Hagan’s sister died from ‘multi-organ failure’

The teenage sister of reality TV star Holly Hagan died from ‘multi-organ failure’ and ‘MDMA overdose’ after a night out at Manchester’s Warehouse Project, an inquest has been told.

Toxicology tests found ‘high levels’ of the drug were present in Darci Rose Gibson’s body, Manchester Coroner’s Court was told on Monday as an inquest into her death was opened and adjourned.

Former Geordie Shore star Holly told recently how Darci, who was 19, had mixed crystal MDMA into a drink at the club night in Manchester.

Now further details have emerged, with the provisional cause of death revealed during the brief hearing yesterday (December 15).

Darci was rushed to hospital after suffering a ‘cardiac arrest’ during the club night, but sadly died two days later in October this year, the inquest heard.

Acting senior coroner, Zak Golombeck, said Darci died at Manchester Royal Infirmary on October 20 this year.

Mr Golombeck read from a statement supplied by a police coroner’s officer. He said Darci was born on November 16, 20, and her next of kin was her older sister, Holly.

Mr Golombeck said Darci was admitted to the MRI on October 18 ‘having suffered a cardiac arrest’. She remained in hospital for treatment but developed ‘multi-organ failure’ and died there on October 20.

Holly has spoken about the harrowing final moments of her sister's life following her accidental death after partying at the Warehouse Project in Manchester in October

Holly Hagan revealed her sister Darci, 19, saved a stranger's life by donating her heart following fatal drug overdose as she admitted 'we wanted her life to mean something'

Mr Golombeck said he received a phone call from a GMP officer at the time. The officer, the coroner added, confirmed that Darci ‘had been present’ at the Warehouse Project ‘when she suffered a cardiac arrest’. ‘There was a suspicion at the time that she had taken illicit drugs,’ the coroner said. ‘This was confirmed to the clinicians.’

A provisional cause of death, pending a full inquest, was given by the coroner as ‘multi-organ failure’ and ‘MDMA overdose’. Mr Golombeck said toxicology tests on Darci’s blood and urine confirmed ‘high levels of MDMA’.

The coroner said he also accepted evidence relating to her identification and ordered further evidence in the form of a file from Greater Manchester Police. He said police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances or ‘evidence of third party involvement’ in her death.

The inquest was adjourned to a later date. No further details were heard and no date for a full inquest was set.

Following her death, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: ‘On Sunday 19 October 2025 we were called by hospital staff to the concern for welfare of a 19-year-old woman who had fallen seriously ill after it is believed she had taken drugs.

Sadly, the woman died in hospital Monday evening (October 20). Our thoughts remain with her family at this difficult time. Enquiries are ongoing.’

In an emotional statement released on Instagram, Holly paid tribute to paramedics and staff at the MRI ‘for giving my sister the absolute best chance’.

She wrote: ‘It is with immeasurable grief and sadness that our baby girl, my baby sister Darci Rose passed away peacefully holding my hand surrounded by family and her best friends.

‘She was never in any pain. The last four days have been something I hope no family ever has to go through. We are traumatised in every sense of the word.’

Thanking all medics involved in her care, she added: ‘Because of you all we have had the opportunity to hold her hand, stroke her hair and feel her heart beating for the last time. We will forever be grateful for the way you have looked after her and us throughout this unimaginable process.

‘Darci is so beautiful and she genuinely didn’t even realise it.’
