A British tourist, who paid 110 euros for beach-front cabanas, with an ‘amazing’ view, said it was ruined by an ‘obnoxiously coloured’ yellow tourist boat.
Chloe Papworth travelled to Rhodes, Greece, in September with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday.
The 31-year-old said the group paid 110 euros (£95) to reserve the cabana sunbeds on the first row at Saint Paul’s Bay to experience the view.
While Chloe admitted the price was high, she thought it was worth it as they were very close to the sea.
But the business owner was disappointed to see a bright yellow submarine tourist boat anchoring right in front of her sunbed.
Footage shows the amazing view from the beach before the camera moves to the boat, with the caption reading: ‘Well, that wasn’t on the cabana menu.’
Chloe said the boat dropped off a group of tourists and sailed off but returned twice during her stay at the beach.
The holidaymaker said the boat ruined the ‘aesthetic’ of the beach and did not fit in with its surroundings.
Chloe said: ‘It was a girls’ trip, we go every year for my best friend’s birthday.
‘It was funny that we paid all this money and that massive yellow submarine-looking thing came. It was ironic, really.
‘It didn’t really fit with the aesthetic. The colour was obnoxious, it was a tourist boat, it came from another island or another part of Rhodes.
‘The people were fine, we don’t know where they went, they just disappeared. It came back twice in the day. They were all tourists and looked like they were going to walk up the Acropolis.
‘It was just so random, it didn’t tie into anything. It didn’t tie to the people that were on it, and it didn’t tie to the place. It just dropped them off and then went again.
‘We made this funny video and laughed at it. I wouldn’t have wanted it to stay there. Thank God it left.’
Some commenters online have pointed out that you shouldn’t complain about tourists when you are a tourist yourself.
One comment read: ‘Tourists when other tourists do touristy things.’
Another added: ‘Why would you pay that much?’
Meanwhile, others agreed with Chloe’s complaint, with one saying: ‘No, ’cause this would boil my blood?’
Another said: ‘Girl… I paid for a boat trip and it was this yellow monstrosity.’
The owners of the beach explained that they have ‘no jurisdiction over which vessels arrive at the public jetty of St Paul’s Bay’.
They said that the vessel is privately owned and has no affiliation with the beach or nearby restaurant.
They said that while it is not permanently moored in the bay, it has been seen on occasion to drop off and pick up passengers from both the main bay of Lindos and St Paul’s Bay.
