Harry Kane bolsters quadruple hopes and Ballon d’Or bid

Harry Kane fired Bayern Munich into the DFB-Pokal final on Wednesday night to keep their Quadruple hopes burning.

The striker scored his 52nd goal of the campaign as Bayern dispatched Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 to reach the final of Germany’s domestic cup for the first time since 2020.

Kane, 32, opened the scoring from close range in the 22nd minute before Luis Diaz added a stoppage-time goal to send Vincent Kompany’s men through away from home.

Bayern have already won the Bundesliga and Germany’s Super Cup and are also in the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they face Paris Saint-Germain.

Their progress also bolsters Kane’s hopes of winning the Ballon d’Or, which often favours players who have lifted silverware.

He leads the way in the Bundesliga’s scoring charts with 32 goals, 14 ahead of his nearest competitor in Stuttgart forward Denis Undav.

Kane could, of course, make it five trophies for the season in all if England also go on to lift the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

‘Berlin bound!! Top top night away from home to secure our spot in the final. We keep pushing!!’ Kane wrote on Instagram.

He added to the media: ‘It was a top performance from start to finish. We pressed them and won the ball high. We should’ve scored more goals and decided the game earlier.

‘Overall they didn’t create many chances and we deserved the win. We said at the start of the season that the German Cup was a goal. I’m really happy we made it there.’

Bayern will be heavy favourites in the DFB-Pokal final on May 23, where they will face either Stuttgart or Freiburg.

That will come a week before the Champions League final in which, if they progress, they will meet Arsenal or Atletico Madrid.

Kane is now on 137 goals in 140 games for Bayern and is hoping to add to his haul of three trophies.

He has won the Bundesliga twice as well as the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup since joining from Tottenham for £100million in August 2023.
