German museum unveils questionable waxwork of famous Brit

A German museum has unveiled a questionable wax statue of a very famous Brit.

The Panoptikum museum in Hamburg revealed the ‘royal’ addition to their collection which will appear alongside celebrities such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.

Artist Lisa Buscher and her team had been working on the statue since August, but their replica of the famous figure has left some people scratching their heads.

Wearing a dark green sequined dress by designer Jenny Packham, the statue looks similar to a notable member of the British monarchy, but is not quite an exact replica.

The Panoptikum museum is no stranger to wax figure controversy.

In 2022 they unveiled a statue of Queen Elizabeth II with half a wig, showing her bare scalp hidden under a hat.

After the reveal, Dr Susanne Faerber, managing partner of the museum, told The Daily Mail they ‘just install the amount of hair which is visible for the visitors.’

Asked if she thought it was disrespectful to display the Queen figure’s bald head, she said: ‘It is a waxwork, not the real person, this should always be kept in mind.

The newest figure at the Hamburg museum is none other than Princess Kate, adding another royal to their collection.

Speaking about her artistic process, Buscher said: ‘We not only modeled the outfit but also the character’s makeup on a public appearance, while keeping it royally understated.

‘Of course, Kate’s signature eyeliner couldn’t be missing – complemented by light smoky eyes.’

The green dress chosen as her attire is one of Kate’s most iconic looks, with the Princess wearing it twice in recent years.

She first donned the gown during a royal tour of Pakistan in 2019 and later at a Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall.

To create the statue, the artist and her team said they studied hundreds of photos of the Princess, extracting tiny details from each one.

They said the biggest challenge was getting the teeth right, with  Buscher claiming it took them 30 hours to perfect.

‘Because every photo was taken from a different angle, the smile is always just a tiny bit different,’ she explained.

The teeth and eyed were each individually crafted from Resin, and she stands at 1.75 metres tall

However, at 15kg, the statue weights considerably less than the real royal.

Kate’s figure now stands next to the late Queen, alongside over 120 other famous figures from around the world.

However, at 15kg, the statue weights considerably less than the real royal.

Emphasising the importance of this addition to the exhibition, Dr. Faerber said: ‘Princess Catherine is incredibly well-known. Five-year-old’s know her just as well as 95-year-olds.’

She added: ‘It is very important to us that as many visitors as possible recognize the people depicted in our museum.’
