Green councillor posts himself driving Lambo days after his election

A Green councillor has proudly posted footage of himself driving a Lamborghini just days after he was elected – despite his party’s ‘war on motorists’.

Mohammad Baghdadi Khan uploaded the video of him at the wheel of the gas-guzzling supercar alongside footage of him winning his seat last week in the Halliwell ward of Bolton, Greater Manchester.

The film featuring the Lamborghini Huracán Spyder – which cost up to £270,000 – appears to have been taken during a wedding in 2023 when a fleet of supercars ferried guests to the venue.

He also posted footage of himself driving what seems to be his regular car – a Mercedes with personalised number plates – which he used while campaigning.

He boasted if elected he would be ‘standing up for the people, the community, fighting for what’s right’.

In his campaign pledges, also posted online, Mr Khan – known as Baggy Khan – promised to work for ‘greener spaces’ and supported taxes for ‘billionaires not workers’.

His decision to flaunt his cars was branded an ‘absolute joke’ and ‘hypocrisy’ by many, given his party’s motoring policies.

One TikTok user commented: ‘Absolute joke a local councillor driving a car like that.’

Councillor Baggy Khan, 25, responded: ‘Who said councillors can’t drive cars like this?’

The Greens provoked fury by announcing they would slash speed limits on motorways and dual carriageways by 15mph and extend 20mph zones in built-up areas.

They would also ‘incrementally’ raise taxes on driving and ‘steadily reduce’ parking spaces to push cars off the roads.

The Conservatives accused Green leader Zack Polanski of pursuing a ‘war on drivers’ and said the Green leader wants to ‘make driving slower, more expensive and, in many cases, impossible’.

However, the Greens stood by the policies – arguing their ‘evidence-based measures’ would reduce road traffic accidents and save drivers money on fuel.

The official Green Party transport policy stated last month: ‘On major roads outside of built up areas, the maximum speed limit allowed would be 55mph, to maximise the efficiency of fuel use as well as improving safety.’

Mr Polanski’s party would pursue a deliberate policy of travel ‘demand management’ if they were in government, with the primary objective being to reduce ‘speeds and volume of motorised traffic’.

As part of this, the policy adds: ‘Road fuel tax is an important factor in encouraging users to be more mileage conscious and to opt for smaller, more fuel efficient cars. The Green Party would increase road fuel tax incrementally.’

Shadow transport secretary Richard Holden accused Mr Polanski of being ‘out of touch’ with the public and said the plans would be a ‘Green light for madness’.

He said: ‘This will drive up costs for working families and bring the country to a standstill. It is completely out of touch with how people live.

‘Only the Conservatives will stand up for drivers, protect your freedom to move, and keep Britain moving.’

The Greens were approached for comment yesterday.
