Lampard cheered on by wife Christine as Coventry lift title

Frank Lampard was cheered on by his wife Christine as Coventry City celebrated winning the Championship title on Sunday.

Coventry boss Lampard, 47, has done an incredible job with the Sky Blues to lead them to a return to the Premier League after 25 years away.

They confirmed their promotion with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers last Friday, before they thumped Portsmouth 5-1 on Tuesday night to secure the title.

And on Sunday, Coventry defeated play-off chasing Wrexham 3-1, after which they lifted the Championship trophy in front of a packed out CBS Arena.

Lampard’s wife Christine was in attendance for the match and celebrations, and she looked extremely proud as she beamed down from the stands.

Lampard was in the thick of things as he joined his players for the trophy lift, before he addressed the stadium on a special afternoon for Coventry fans.

Christine then came on to the pitch as players and staff invited their family down from the stands.

The two children Lampard shares with Christine were also on the pitch and they posed for a wholesome family photograph, with his son wearing a full Coventry kit.

During the game, Coventry had been pegged back to 1-1 by Oliver Rathbone after Brandon Thomas-Asante put them ahead early on.

In a tight encounter it was Victor Torp’s free kick that gave them a 2-1 lead with just 10 minutes to go, before Ephron Mason-Clark added the gloss on the victory in injury time.

Christine’s presence at the match comes just days after Lampard paid an emotional tribute to her after winning the Championship Manager of the Year award last weekend.

Asked about the importance of his life at home, the usually guarded Lampard hailed the influence of Christine, the Loose Women and Lorraine star.

‘I am fortunate enough at this point to have a life balance, which is important for us, where I can go home to a wife who supports me, and gives me everything I need,’ he told the audience at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, among them his amused wife.

‘She’s my best friend. She is, I’m serious; I’m lucky, she has her own career and I think she kind of gets it. Every other manager in this room will say that’s so important because it’s such an intense job.

‘You go to work and you sit in this bubble there and there’s another problem, there’s so many problems, but you’re trying to get the best, and you come home and you need that balance.’

Meanwhile, when Coventry’s promotion was confirmed at Blackburn, Lampard was visibly emotional as the final whistle blew, and Christine shared her husband’s delight by posting a clip of him celebrating with Coventry’s long-suffering fans on Instagram.

During his post-match interview that night, Lampard fought back tears while reflecting on Coventry City’s journey back to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.

EXCLUSIVE FRANK LAMPARD: Taking Coventry into the Premier League would be the best moment of my career

He told Sky Sports: ‘It’s amazing. The fanbase, what they’ve gone through, the disappointments, the moments.

‘To get a promotion with a non-parachute club, to see the boys there, it makes me emotional. They’re so great to work with. They deserve every moment of celebrating.

‘I’m proud. I’m proud of myself and the staff. We went into a bit of an unknown. We’ve fallen in love with the players and the fanbase, how they reacted. It’s right up there with what I’ve achieved – and I’ve won Champions Leagues with Chelsea.

‘But here we’re overachieving. Automatic promotion wasn’t in our plan.’
