Former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, 68, marries her partner David

Mail on Sunday columnist and former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman has revealed she’s married her partner David, after more than 20 years together.

The writer, 68, shared the happy news she’d tied the knot with her longterm partner, 78, at Chelsea Registry Office.

Posting a snap from the occasion on Instagram, Alexandra shared that only ‘family and a few friends’ were present at her wedding.

Alexandra was editor-in-chief at British Vogue for 25 years before stepping down from the publication in 2017.

The newlywed posed for snaps in a fun red and white printed dress as the snap showed her and David’s loved ones throwing confetti on them.

She captioned the post: ‘WE DID IT! Wedding at Chelsea with family and a few friends.

‘Thanks @nshulman for bouquet and also @conphipps for brunch and @samuelspike for order of service sheet. #marriage #wedding.’

Alexandra’s son, Samuel Spike, from her previous marriage to Paul Spike also posted a lovely image of the happy couple, simply writing: ‘Mum and David.’

Many of Alexandra’s friends offered their congratulations in the comments including model Daisy Lowe.

She had previously opened up about her relationship in a piece for The Mail On Sunday, where she shared the reason she and David were yet to marry, despite 20 years of living together. You can read the full story here.

In the piece, Alexandra said that she disliked the term partner as ‘unattractively corporate and contractual,’ and she still felt ‘queasy’ about calling her partner her ‘boyfriend.’

Back in December, Alexandra had also shared a sweet throwback from her relationship with David on Instagram.

Alexandra stepped down as British Vogue’s editor-in-chief after 25 years, almost a quarter-centure to the day since she was appointed.

Nicholas Coleridge, managing director of the magazine’s publisher Condé Nast, said at the time: ‘Alex has been the longest-serving and most successful editor of Vogue in its 100 year history.

‘She has been the towering figure of the British fashion press throughout her tenure: a superb journalist and editor, who understands and exemplifies every quality. Imaginative, hard-working, perceptive and a brilliant leader.’

Alexandra also said at the time: ‘I realised that I very much wanted to experience a different life and look forward to a future separate to Vogue.

‘It does amaze me when people say ”Well, you don’t look like the editor of Vogue’.’ Because I am the editor of Vogue. So what else does the editor of Vogue look like?’

Alexandra was replaced as British Vogue’s editor-in-chief by Edward Enninful, and he stepped down in 2023 after being promoted to Vogue’s global creative and cultural advisor.

Edward was replaced by Chioma Nnadi, who also co-hosts the Vogue podcast The Run-Through.
