Ex-girlfriend lured former boyfriend into honeytrap assault

A vengeful ex-girlfriend lured her former partner into a honeytrap before using her phone to film a gang of masked thugs brutally beating him.

Summer Marl-Brock, 21, called ex-partner Benjamin Edwards to say she was out alone at night after drinking.

A court heard that a worried Mr Edwards agreed to meet his ex – while she secretly arranged for two men to attack him.

Attackers Aaron Evans, 34, and David Brock, 38, then lay in wait before Mr Edwards arrived outside a shop – and was attacked in his car.

Prosecutor Gemma Gordon said ex-girlfriend Marl-Brock filmed the beating while Mr Edwards was trapped in his driver’s seat.

The horrific mobile phone footage showed the three laughing to themselves before launching the attack when the victim arrived.

Mr Edwards can then be heard shouting: ‘I don’t know what I’ve done – what have I done?’

The court heard he suffered ‘grave’ injuries, including bruising to his eye sockets, broken skin on his cheek from a human bite and a fractured jawbone.

He said one of his ears was also pulled so hard ‘he thought it was going to be pulled off.’

The court heard Mr Edwards had previously been in a ‘strained’ relationship with Marl-Brock for 12 months before they broke up.

But she told the attackers he had been violent towards her which was ‘the catalyst for what followed’ in Mold, North Wales.

Mold Crown Court heard Mr Edwards agreed to meet her at the shop in August 2024 after he heard male voices in the background and was concerned.

He eventually managed to make his escape and called police before going to hospital.

In a victim impact statement, Mr Edwards said: ‘I am no longer the same person.

‘I was just trying to help someone in need who I trusted.’

Andrew Jebb, defending Marl-Brock, said she suffered a severe stroke in February and was hospitalised until being discharged on March 10.

He said: ‘She now suffers from memory problems. And she also has reduced language fluency.’

The court heard Marl-Brock had received an offer to begin a three-year midwifery degree at the University of Chester.

Judge Simon Mills said: ‘It is not necessary for the court to examine the truth of the events that led to this terrible piece of pre-planned violence.

‘The facts make it abundantly clear you three had a plan to take revenge on Mr Edwards for whatever you perceived he had done.

‘He was lured to the scene of this terrible assault.’

He said the ‘brutal uncontrolled violence’ and ‘cowardly’ attack ‘never would have happened’ without Marl-Brock.

David Brock, of Mold, was jailed for seven years and two months as well as a three-year extended licence period.

Summer Marl-Brock was jailed for four-and-a-half years. Aaron Evans was jailed for six years and three months.

They were all given a 15-year restraining order from contacting the victim.
