Ederson makes HOWLER for Man City during CWC clash with Juventus

A howler from goalkeeper Ederson cost Manchester City the lead during their Club World Cup group stage game against Juventus.

On the same day that the Brazilian took to social media to quash rumours of his impending departure, City’s long-tenured goalkeeper had a moment to forget.

Just over 10 minutes into the match in Orlando, Ederson’s pass while trying to play out from the back was intercepted on the edge of the box by midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

The Dutchman then made City pay, coasting into the area before firing past Ederson to equalise for the Serie A club.

Earlier on Thursday, Ederson said that ‘his future is here’ in response to reports linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.

‘My friends sent me some videos,’ he said. ‘99% is fake news.’

Manchester City are looking to win their third consecutive Club World Cup match in the USA

Manchester City were looking to end the group stages on a high after already beating Wydad AC and Al Ain at the Club World Cup.

Early in their clash with Juventus, they took the lead through winger Jeremy Doku.

Ederson then ruined his team-mate’s good work, looking to find Silva with a pass from his own box.

Koopmeiners nips in ahead of Silva before striding into the box.

His left-footed strike was too powerful for Ederson to make up for his error, nestling into the bottom left corner.

Fans took to social media to react to the howler, with one account labelling it a ‘horror error.’

Another fan posted on X asking, ‘He’s going to be our first team GK next season?’

‘I was just defending bro today with all my might,’ said one fan, referencing the rumours that Ederson was about to jump ship.

Another account said there was ‘no excuse’ for the mix-up, describing it as a ‘ridiculously bad pass.’

Some fans took the chance to turn the gaffe into a gag, with one account saying ‘Errorson, every time’.

Fortunately for Ederson, his mistake had little effect on the full time result, as Manchester City cruised past the Old Lady with a 5-2 win, booking their place in the Club World Cup’s last 16 stage.
