Drew Barrymore’s historic $4.9m New York country home finds a buyer

Drew Barrymore has found a buyer for her sprawling $4.9 million New York country home nearly two months after putting the estate on the market.

The 51-year-old actress, who recently got candid about her body insecurities, had purchased the 12-acre property in Westchester County just two years earlier for $4.4 million.

The historic residence, which was built in the 1740s, has undergone massive renovations in the past year which the talk show host has previously opened up about.

The sale of the house is currently ‘pending’ and the offer has not been disclosed. Kori Sassower and Brian K. Lewis of Compass are on the listing.

Barrymore’s country home located in the city of Harrison provides plenty of space with six bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

A bright living room contains a traditional fireplace, French doors that lead outside and a spiral staircase that leads to the second level.

A circular sun room has space for a small table as sunlight streams in through the many windows and glass ceiling.

In the warmer seasons, residents can spend time outside and cool down in the large swimming pool also on the property.

The residence has a separate pool house and guest cottage along with the main house.

When she first came across the country home, the Never Been Kissed actress revealed that she had felt an immediate connection.

‘I came here and I walked around and I was like, I swear my family has been in this house,’ Barrymore told Rue Magazine back in March. ‘I don’t think I’m super woo-woo, but I had this really strong sense and feeling.’

After purchasing the estate, Barrymore spent time on extensive renovations and admitted that she ‘had no idea what I was undertaking.’

The star explained that when it came to the transformation of the residence, she still aimed ‘to preserve things.’

Barrymore also shared that one of her goals was to elevate spaces in the home without spending a lot of money.

‘I don’t spend a lot of money on things. That’s not my style. But I was like, how can I make this house look expensive without having true expensive antiques around?’ she told the outlet.

The actress also opened up about what drew her to searching for a residence outside of NYC.

‘I had desperately wanted a place outside the city because I had been working for years at this point inside of a studio with no windows. I’m from California and I just had this urge to find nature.’

Barrymore shared that she had a ‘spiritual calling’ when it came to the house during an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

The estate offers a nature oasis outside of the bustling city and is surrounded by lush green grass and tall trees.

‘It’s really like being in your own personal park. There are tons of deer. There are pheasants, there are ducks, there are rabbits.’

Barrymore previously shared that she moved to NYC in order for her children to be closer to ex-husband Will Kopelman.

The former couple were married from 2012 until their divorce was finalized in 2016. The pair share Olive, 13, and Frankie, 12.

‘I ended up finding myself in divorce. Their dad moved to New York, I didn’t want my children to be away from their father and I love his family,’ she said during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

‘We’re very close, and even though we had a divorce, we said, “Let’s not misstep. Let’s just carry on like we are a family because we are a family.”‘

However, Barrymore has discussed about possibly returning to Los Angeles sometime in the future.

‘I’m sure I’ll be back there. This is just a chapter,’ she said about California while talking to the Los Angeles Times.
