‘Dine-and-dash’ ex-solicitor still on the run despite four warrants

A serial dine-and-dash former solicitor remains on the run despite four warrants for her arrest and being struck off from the Roll of Solicitors.

Kerry Ann Stevens, 40, has failed to appear in court on at least nine occasions and today Essex police have released a new mugshot of her.

Her partner Daniel Alani, 39, has also failed to turn up to court after being due for sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court.

The hearing was adjourned but no warrant for his arrest was issued as the court accepted his excuse for his absence.

Meanwhile, Stevens has been charged with 11 counts of making off without payment and one count of theft from a shop. She denies the offences and is due to face trial later this year.

Stevens has links to Shoebury and Westcliff, both in Essex, police hunting her have said.

Anyone who has information regarding her whereabouts has been urged to contact the cops.

The couple, both previously of the Southend area, first came to light when they were named locally after allegedly dining and dashing at restaurants and not paying taxi fares.

They were first probed by police in connection with a dine and dash incident where regulars stopped a couple fleeing a pub without paying their £62 bill.

A couple are believed to have fled The Castle Inn without paying £62.20 after scoffing prawn cocktail, breaded mushrooms and two roast chicken dinners with extra lamb.

They also drank two cokes, an orange juice and a medium glass of pinot wine.

Landlord Ken Todd, 76, said previously: ‘For the sake of £62, if they came in and were starving I’d just give them the food.

‘The man tried to leave through the back door of the pub which I had already locked and apparently the woman tried to escape by the bathroom window.’

The pair were originally arrested after officers attended an address in Great Wakering, near Southend, Essex on May 2, 2024. This is when earlier mugshots were taken.

They were questioned on three counts of making off without payment and released on conditional bail until late July.

But they didn’t answer that bail, prompting Essex Police to issue an appeal for information about their whereabouts at the time.

The couple have also been accused of dodging taxi fares. One cabbie alleges that Ms Stevens screamed at him when he refused to accept a phone charger as payment instead of cash.

Boyfriend Alani has pleaded guilty to theft, theft from a shop and eight counts of making off without payment. His sentencing is now listed for Thursday next week.
