Dave Grohl shares rare insight into his home life

Dave Grohl has shared a rare insight into his home life as he revealed he finds ‘comfort’ in cooking for his children after being away on tour.

The Foo Fighters singer, 57, and his wife Jordyn Blum share three children together Violet, 19, Harper, 16, and Ophelia, 11.

But their seemingly solid marriage – and Dave’s ‘nicest guy in rock image’ – were shattered in September 2024 when the rocker revealed he had secretly fathered a fourth daughter.

Now opening up about his family life, Dave said he enjoys returning home from touring the world and getting ‘straight into the kitchen’ to cook a home cooked meal for his children.

Speaking to Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on Dish from Waitrose, Dave said: ‘Well, the first thing I do when I come home from being on tour–is I like to cook for the family.

‘So, I love to get straight into the kitchen and whether it’s making a roast over the weekend or it’s pasta, I usually like bring the comfort, like I’m home and I bring the comfort–to the kids.’

Revealing where he got his love for food, Dave said he lived a ‘very simple life’ growing up as his mother ‘didn’t have any money’ so he would eat anything she made for him and his sister.

He said: ‘My mother was a great cook. She was a public school teacher, so we lived a very simple life. We didn’t have any money, just enough for my mother to like, feed–my sister and I. And she was so inventive and so creative with so little.

‘So I swear to you, if she were to make a turkey, we would have that f****** turkey, it would last for 2 weeks, you know. And it was like crepes, or it was pasta or whatever, so I basically just ate anything that she put on the table.’

Dave and Jordyn have been together for more than two decades, tying the knot in 2003, and share three daughters together.

In 2024, the rocker revealed he had secretly fathered a fourth daughter.

Jennifer Young confirmed to Page Six in 2025 that she is the mother of his child, with the baby born on August 1, 2024 and Dave’s last name listed on the birth certificate, according to records viewed by the outlet.

His daughter lives with her mother in Los Angeles and she often takes their daughter for walks in their neighbourhood.

Dave confirmed the news in a shock statement posted to Instagram, where he wrote: ‘I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.

‘I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.’

Dave Grohl and wife Jordyn Blum step out hand-in-hand in Notting Hill after his cheating scandal

Jordyn and Dave were soon pictured without their wedding rings amid reports that the musician had consulted a divorce attorney.

However, insiders told the Daily Mail the pair have worked hard to overhaul their marriage, enduring months of counselling sessions and implementing strict rules to allow her to keep tabs on her philandering spouse in a desperate bid to rebuild trust.

‘Jordyn was shocked and publicly embarrassed when she found out about his cheating,’ one insider said. ‘But despite most of her friends advising her to divorce Dave, she decided not to do anything rash.

‘After careful consideration they entered couples therapy for around six months. It helped them to get to the good place they’re at now.’

For now, at least it seems, divorce is not on the cards – on the proviso that Dave abides by Jordyn’s list of conditions.

‘When this happened, it hit the fan and they almost split up,’ a second insider said. ‘She gave a whole list of conditions to stay together.

‘She now has his location on her phone. She knows where he is and what he’s doing. She can look at his phone at any time. But it goes both ways, she shares her location as well. They keep tabs on each other.

‘Dave started keeping more normal hours. Spending the night at home rather than on the road. He knows that she can – and has – surprised him with visits when he’s traveling. It’s a very short leash. The boundaries have not loosened up – he’s still very much on thin ice.’

Dave, who has often been described as a ‘family man,’ has talked frequently over the years about how important family has been for him, claiming his wife and children are the ‘anchors that keep me from completely disappearing’.

Prior to meeting Jordyn, hid checkered rock star past was plagued with rumours – and admissions – of infidelity.

He divorced his first wife Jennifer Leigh Youngblood in 1997 after admitting to cheating.

Reflecting on their three-year marriage in 1999, he said: ‘I was 25, my wife was even younger. We weren’t ready to get married.’

He then dated Louise Post from the band Veruca Salt – who accused him of cheating on her with a handful of women.

For Jordyn, the infidelity was not enough to break them, and she is now focusing on returning to the ‘life they had before,’ with sources claiming the couple are ‘thriving’, while Dave navigates a co-parenting relationship with Jennifer.

One insider said: ‘Dave has a presence in his daughter’s life, and he has set up her financially. He has limited contact with Jennifer, but things are amicable.

‘He does spend time with the baby when he can, and a time-sharing plan has been set up. Jennifer has the baby most of the time. The plan is that their daughter will grow up knowing her half-siblings.’

Another insider added: ‘Jordyn has no relationship with Jennifer, and doesn’t care to. She has to have a relationship with his daughter, and she doesn’t resent that.

‘It was a pretty huge betrayal, and even Dave acknowledges that. He knows that she deserved to be angry. So we’ll see where it goes, but for now they’re thriving.’
