Daily Mail lands two top prizes at sports journalism Oscars

Daily Mail Sport’s superb coverage has been recognised at the prestigious Sports Journalism Awards – with Riath Al-Samarrai and Charlotte Daly both landing major gongs at the industry’s Oscars.

After a memorable year in which he covered Rory McIlroy’s historic Masters victory at Augusta and Europe’s dramatic Ryder Cup triumph in New York, Chief Sports Feature Writer Riath was named the standout writer in a stellar field to land the Specialist Correspondent award for a second time. At a ceremony in London on Monday night he picked up the Mike Dickson Trophy – named after our late, great Tennis Correspondent.

Charlotte’s superb boxing coverage, meanwhile, was recognised as she won top prize in the Ones To Watch (Writing) category, awarded to the year’s best young sportswriter. That trophy was named after Ian Wooldridge, the Mail’s peerless columnist, following his death in 2007.

And in yet more recognition for the Mail’s sports coverage, Chief Football Reporter Craig Hope landed silver in the Football Journalist category, while James Sharpe won Data Journalist bronze.
