Coronation Street chief’s ‘controversially kill’ iconic soap character

Coronation Street chiefs are reportedly set to kill a legendary character in a ‘huge snub’.

Les Battersby, who is played by actor Bruce Jones, 71, will have an off-screen death despite playing the iconic role from 1997 to 2007, according to The Sun.

A source said: ‘It’s a huge snub to kill off a popular character like this.

‘Bruce created one of the Street’s most iconic characters in Les and always hoped one day he might return.

‘A lot of the cast and crew have said it’s a bit mean.

Les’ characters is known for his outspoken opinions and his following of English rock band Status Quo.

In next month’s instalment Les’s daughter Leanne (played by Jane Danson) receives a call telling her that her dad is dead and then tells the news to her sister Toyah (played by Georgia Taylor).

Bruce was firstly suspended from the soap for allegedly getting drunk in a restaurant, insulting fans and eventually revealing plots.

Meanwhile Bethany’s intruder terror, Leanne and Nick split and Max opens his heart to Lauren.

Bethany is discharged from hospital and Sarah tires to settle her daughter back into the flat but is left worried when Bethany breaks down in tears. 

Sarah later heads out to do some food shopping, but when Bethany hears a noise, she is shocked to realise it’s not her mum, but an intruder. 

As a man in a balaclava ransacks the flat, Bethany desperately tries to hide, but will he spot her?

Meanwhile, with Damon having been desperately trying to get in touch with Sarah, is the intruder something to do with the missing money?  

Lauren arrives at Dee-Dee’s and gives her some flowers as a thank you for offering her a room at the flat. 

Later, Lauren’s social worker arrives to talk to Dee-Dee about Lauren and Frankie’s move, but a reminder of Joel sees Dee-Dee get upset. Can she really cope with Joel’s baby son moving in?
