Christine McGuinness, Shakira Khan & Joe Baggs lead BAFTA worst dress

For every award-winning look on a red carpet, a fashion fail will often follow behind.

At Sunday evening’s BAFTA Television Awards at the Royal Festival Hall, stars hit the red carpet in an array of glamourous, kooky and racy ensembles.

Leading some of the more questionable looks of the evening was Christine McGuinness, who left practically nothing to the imagination in an eye-popping number which shunned the cardinal legs-or-cleavage rule.

Joining her in the faux pas camp was TikToker Joe Baggs as he opted for a Beetlejuice-inspired ensemble while Love Island star Cach Mercer appeared to have missed the evening glam memo, instead opting for a lumberjack look.

His Love Island co-star Shakira Khan meanwhile appeared to have overegged the glitz, as she sashayed along the red carpet in an aggressively blingy dress with adornments including a hip brooch, a ruffled slit and tight bust.

Cach’s co-star ex-girlfriend Toni Laites was leaving little to the imagination in her ill-fitted grey gown, which she paired with a dramatic updo.

Love Island star Demi Jones, who seemingly took the Jessica Rabbit road, seemed to go down the wrong path with a very dramatic take on the iconic red gown.

Also going for a red dress was Myleene Klass, who added slightly too much volume with vast corsages laden across her gown.

Actress and Strictly star Rose Ayling-Ellis wore a yellow gown with a cold shoulder detail and draped sleeves, however rather than make an ethereal sashay down the red carpet, the stunning star looked restrained.

Call The Midlife star Ella Bruccoleri missed the mark in an androgynous ensemble.

Paloma Faith channelled a gothic pirate in a fringed dress with a dramatic hat, while she posed on the red carpet while flanked by her Traitors co-star Alan Carr.

The BAFTA Television Awards will be hosted by Greg Davies and broadcast at 7pm on Sunday, May 10 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Nominations were announced in March with Stephen Graham leading the way with a total of 11 nominations for his drama, Adolescence and seven for his Disney+ series, A Thousand Blows.

The former series, which was created by actor Stephen, 52, and writer Jack Thorne, tells the story of British teenager Jamie Miller, who is found guilty of murdering a female classmate after being sucked in by the manosphere online.

Each episode is filmed in one continuous shot and has been widely praised for addressing topics such as online radicalisation and misogyny.

It is up for Limited Drama and Leading Actor, including the Craft Awards.
