Caicedo and Fernandez make contrasting statements on Chelsea futures

Chelsea’s two most expensive players in history have given very different answers about their futures at the club.

Moises Caicedo, who joined from Brighton for £115million in 2023, was asked about transfer interest from Real Madrid by Spanish show El Chiringuito.

And even though the Blues are going through a difficult season, he reiterated his commitment to the club.

Caicedo said: ‘I want to become a Chelsea legend. I’m under contract at Chelsea, and my focus is on Chelsea and Ecuador.’

His answer was in stark contrast to team-mate Enzo Fernandez, who signed for Chelsea three years ago for £106m and was also questioned about interest from Real.

‘No, honestly, nothing,’ he told Ole. ‘Zero talks. Now we’re focused on Chelsea and what’s left of the last few games this season, and then we’ll see after the World Cup.’

Moises Caicedo reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea when asked about his future

Fernandez said 'we'll see' when discussing his future at the club in contrast to Caicedo

He appeared to leave the door open to a possible move with talk of a conversation after the World Cup in the US this summer.

Chelsea are in a strong selling position with both players given their long contracts signed at Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo’s deal runs until 2033 and Fernandez has six years left on his, meaning it would take a significant fee from any potential suitors to secure a transfer.

Fernandez was vocal in his criticism of the club’s decision to sack Enzo Maresca earlier in the season.

At the time he said: ‘I don’t understand it. Sometimes as a player, there’s things we don’t understand and the way they try to manage things. I don’t have an answer for you because I don’t know.

‘Obviously, it was a departure that hurt a lot because we had a lot of identity, he gave us order but it’s the way that football is, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad.

‘But we always had a clear identity when it came to training, playing and obviously his departure hurt us especially in the middle of the season – it cuts everything short.’

Maresca’s replacement, Liam Rosenior, is yet to convince in the dugout and Chelsea have been knocked out of the Champions League and find themselves battling for qualification into next year’s tournament.
