Champions League club could ‘trigger Eberechi Eze buy-out clause’

  • They are claimed to be interested in paying his £68million buy-out clause
  • Eze played a starring role for Crystal Palace last season as they won the FA Cup

A club who have qualified for next season’s Champions League are reportedly interested in buying Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

They are claimed to be interested in paying his £68million buy-out clause as the team in question look to strengthen their options in attack.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to trigger the clause in the contract of the Eagles winger to lure him to north London.

With Tottenham welcoming yet another new manager this summer in former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, they appear keen on signing another attacker.

This has already seen Spurs express interest a player Frank has previously helped to blossom in Bees forward Bryan Mbeumo – but the Lilywhites face competition from Manchester United for his signature.

Spurs have also enquired about the availability of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, but the Cherries are thought to demand a valuation that may prove too steep for him to leave.

A club who are in next's season Champions League are reportedly keen on signing Eze

The 26-year-old was instrumental in guiding Crystal Palace to FA Cup glory in May

This has seen Frank’s new employers turn their attention to Eze, who was an integral part of Palace’s run to FA Cup glory under Oliver Glasner last season.

Indeed it was Eze, 26, who scored the only goal of the FA Cup final as Palace beat Manchester City to claim their first-ever major trophy.

Despite an underwhelming season in domestic terms – which saw them finish 17th in the Premier League – Spurs manage to salvage Champions League qualification thanks to victory over Man United in the Europa League final.

However, winning a first trophy for Spurs since 2008 was not enough to keep Ange Postecoglou his job as the Australian was sacked.

But in Frank, they have a new coach who has impressed in taking Brentford to the Premier League while steadily improving them since winning promotion to the top flight in 2021.

Elsewhere, Spurs have opted to make forward Mathys Tel’s loan move permanent after he spent the second half of the season in north London following his switch from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The potential arrival of Eze could also see captain Son Heung-min depart prior to the window shutting thanks to strong interest from a number of teams in the Saudi Pro League who rate the Tottenham skipper highly.
