Celebrity arrested on suspicion of rape while at Tyson Fury’s fight

A celebrity was arrested on suspicion of rape while attending Tyson Fury’s heavyweight boxing fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov.

Police swooped on the VIP area of Spurs’ North London stadium where they detained the man in his 30s last Saturday after an alleged rape earlier this year.

Detectives are understood to have planned the arrest at the event as they knew the man would be attending.

The star, who reportedly regularly appears on TV and has met members of the royal family, has been bailed. He has not been named.

The Met Police have said the arrest was made in connection to a rape which allegedly happened at a home in Golders Green in January

The celebrity was seized by cops at about 8pm as the undercard of the big fight got underway and was led away by officers.

Fury, 37, then beat Russian Makhmudov, 36, in front of 64,500 fans after the ‘Gypsy King’ came out of retirement.

A source told The Sun: ‘The star turned up and was in an exclusive area of the ground with friends, when he was nicked.

‘It was a targeted pre-planned operation and he was stunned. Some people saw it but the police were trying to be discreet.

‘It was over an allegation from earlier this year. It was a surprising swoop.

‘The police spoke to him to explain the arrest, before leading him away for questioning.

‘It obviously meant he missed the whole event.’

The stadium was packed with stars to watch the fight, including Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, football legend Gary Lineker and Love Island’s Maya Jama.

The man is the latest celebrity to be arrested over a sexual offence. A Strictly Come Dancing star was interviewed under caution last month but released without charge.

Doctor Who actor Noel Clarke was also arrested in February over an alleged historic attempted rape and sexual assault of a woman in her 20s in 2007.

Last month, BBC Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills was sacked over allegations relating to his ‘personal conduct’ with a victim under the age of 16 in 2017. The police decided there was insufficient evidence and Mills faced no charges.
