What Catherine Zeta-Jones eats in a day to maintain her youthful glow

Catherine Zeta-Jones appears to be ageing backwards as she continues to show off her youthful glow at the age of 56.

The secret of which could be in her diet, and luckily for fans, the Welsh actress has revealed what she eats in a day as she shared a rare insight into her family life with husband Michael Douglas, 81, and their two children Dylan, 25, and Carys, 22.

Catherine typically favours a healthy diet during the week to help her feel her best and tends to overindulge at weekends.

Every morning without fail, she wakes up early to enjoy her ‘super quiet house’ and prepares her morning French press coffee.

After taking her dog out, she makes her nutritional breakfast which depends on the current season.

During winter, Catherine enjoys a bowl of porridge topped with brown sugar, bananas and blueberries.

From spring into summer, she swaps it out for a light non-fat vanilla yogurt, complete with Bear Naked granola, blueberries and raspberries.

‘I don’t usually eat breakfast until about 8am, I like to have breakfast. I’m a three meals a day kind of girl but I do have very specific breakfast needs and it’s all about daylight saving’, she told Harper’s BAZAAR.

Cut to the weekend, Catherine lets go of her healthy rigid diet and favours a full English and French toast – using Martha Stewart’s recipe.

‘As a family we do a good British fry up, I get my imported British bacon, sausages, baked beans and scrambled egg’, she added.

‘And for the American contingent in my family – my husband and two children – we do French toast with Canadian maple syrup.

‘Every weekend it comes together in a fabulous family brunch.’

Around 11am, Catherine enjoys a cup of tea and treats herself to a cookie or a chunk of Cadbury’s chocolate.

For lunch, Catherine likes to sit down with her husband Michael and whoever is in the house at the time.

‘We’re very big on family meals’, she said. ‘I don’t know whether it is my European connection.

‘When the kids are here, any family members, anybody that is in our household we stop and we sit down and have lunch.’

She opts for a light lunch consisting of a salad alongside grilled chicken, fish or aubergine.

To accompany her lunchtime meal, she enjoys a cup of her Casa Zeta Jones coffee and finishes with homemade scones.

Speaking about her and Michael’s typical dinner routine, she said: ‘Michael and I usually sit down for dinner before 8pm.

‘We aren’t really into eating late at night but when we are in Europe our whole life shifts into European hours so we tend to eat later but then go to bed later and get up later.’

For her evening meal, Catherine orders an apple and avocado salad, paired with a fillet mignon, shiitake mushroom sauce and vegetables.

‘What I do love is cauliflower cheese, I guess I’m a big cheese lover. I think it’s because my mum wasn’t a great cook but that was her thing, her speciality. It’s just a little piece of home.’

She added: ‘I love desserts, I am a huge ice cream lover and of course my mother’s apple pie – coupled with some ice cream and I’m a very happy woman.’

The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year. They got married at The Plaza Hotel in November 2000.
