A woman’s body was found dead on a lower deck of a Carnival Cruise ship after falling from her bedroom balcony.
The woman, who has not been identified, was found on the morning of April 27 on the Carnival Firenze vessel.
The ship was near Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles, California when her body was discovered, officials said.
Cruise staff were reportedly alerted to the woman’s body by her devastated family members, who said she plummeted from an upper level.
In a statement, Carnival Cruises said it was cooperating with law enforcement, and said ‘all appropriate authorities have been alerted.’
‘As is customary, law enforcement will board the ship today on Catalina Island to conduct the required investigation,’ the company said.
‘Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one.’
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told People that the investigation was being handled by the FBI.

The tragedy marks the second incident on a cruise off the coast of the United States in as many days.
On Sunday, a crewmember fell overboard from a Norwegian Breakaway cruise liner near Cape Cod, Massachusetts, sparking a massive search-and-rescue effort from authorities.
The worker, who has not been identified, fell from the side of the ship during rough waters, officials said.
It also comes three months after the alleged murder of 18-year-old cruise passenger Anna Kepner, who police say was killed by her stepbrother, 16.
The stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, is facing of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse, but the charges remained under seal because he was a juvenile.
Timothy was indicted by a grand jury in February, and the case was finally made public earlier this month after a federal court judge ruled the baby-faced defendant should be tried as an adult and face the possibility of life imprisonment.
Anna’s dad and stepmom have faced a barrage of criticism for allowing the 18-year-old cheerleader to share a room with two teenage boys aboard the Carnival Horizon in November 2025.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail tracked Kepner’s alleged killer Timothy Hudson down to a relative’s home where he was chopping and selling firewood
But in a new court filing obtained exclusively by the Daily Mail earlier this month, government lawyers say there was no reason to believe Timothy Hudson was a violent predator prior to the November 7 killing.
‘The conduct the defendant engaged in involved the most serious, egregious, and violative crimes one person can inflict upon another,’ the filing says.
‘He committed these crimes against a victim with whom he had no apparent relational strife, and whom he was being raised to view as a sibling.
‘Furthermore, he carried out these crimes without any warning he could commit such atrocious acts, and despite an apparent supportive family environment.‘
