Inside Britney Spears’ secret split from ex-felon before DUI arrest

Britney Spears’s tumultuous relationship with ex-felon Paul Soliz came to an end months before her recent DUI arrest.

The pop star, 44, was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol on Wednesday after reportedly driving erratically – an incident captured in a shocking 911 dispatch.

According to TMZ sources familiar with the situation, Spears and Soliz had quietly ended their on-again, off-again romance a few months ago after a series of issues drove a wedge between them.

Since their split, the former couple have not had contact.

Those close to Britney told the outlet that while Soliz’s devotion to his children was admirable, it left little room for the alone time Britney wanted.

She had welcomed his kids into her home and tried to build a bond with them, but ultimately felt she was not his priority, leading to their breakup, per the insider.

Sources also revealed that people in Britney’s circle had long warned her that Soliz might not be the right match, and she eventually came to agree.

Currently, the singer is single and reportedly feeling ‘alone,’ with insiders describing her as ‘traumatized’ by past experiences.

Back in November, a source claimed to the Daily Mail that Soliz was no longer in Spears’s life as they alleged the singer’s sons ‘didn’t come around as much’ when she was dating Soliz.

‘Since she got [Soliz] out of her life, things have been a lot better. Things have been a lot more stabilized since then,’ the insider shared at the time.

Spears and Soliz’s relationship began in the wake of her split from Sam Asghari in 2023.

The couple was spotted on dates across Los Angeles, often spending time with his children.

In May 2024, an argument at the Chateau Marmont reportedly ended with a barefoot and bare-chested Britney nearly being hospitalized.

The pair initially split in July 2024, reconciled briefly in February 2025, but ultimately parted ways for good just a few months later – and according to TMZ, they have had no contact since.

The news comes after a report that police were summoned to Spears’ home a staggering 14 times in the past two years.

Reports suggest the troubled star’s address had repeatedly been linked to calls for service – raising further questions about the period leading up to her arrest.

Just months before the incident, the Toxic singer secured a permanent restraining order against a man from Louisiana who allegedly turned up at her Los Angeles home, according to members of her security team.

But that frightening episode appears to be only one of many disturbances tied to her residence.

Officers have responded to 14 separate calls connected to Spears’s property since January 1, 2024, the California Post reported Thursday.

The most recent entry on the call log dates to October 23, 2025, per the outlet, when authorities received a report of trespassing in progress just before midnight. Details about that incident remain unclear.

The month prior, deputies were dispatched for a well-being check, though the request was ultimately canceled.

August 2025 proved particularly busy, with police responding to a report of trespassing early in the month, followed by two additional follow-up calls linked to the same situation.

Another welfare check occurred on July 11 around 1pm, according to the Post.

Before that, the address went several months without incident until March 21, when a silent alarm was triggered at the property.

Going further back, deputies responded to an audible alarm in December 2024, while two separate well-being checks were logged on the same day in November 2024 – though one of those requests was later canceled.

In October 2024, officers investigated a ‘suspicious subject’ reported near the home, while a ‘subject disturbing’ call had been logged two months earlier.

Another late-night request for a deputy to attend the property came in on May 27, 2024, though the reason behind the call remains unknown.

The earliest entry dates back to April 11, 2024, when authorities responded to an audible alarm at around 3pm, the Post reported.

The revelations come as insiders told TMZ that Spears had recently dismissed members of her sobriety team just weeks before the DUI arrest.

Sources claimed the shake-up occurred after the singer struck a lucrative deal selling rights to her music and returned home to Los Cabos, Mexico.

On Thursday, officers arrived at Roy¿s Towing in Thousand Oaks, where Spears¿s black BMW was reportedly being held. The earliest entry dates back to April 11, 2024, when authorities responded to an audible alarm at around 3pm, the Post reported

According to the outlet, several others tasked with looking after the pop superstar were also let go – including security personnel who had been keeping a close watch on the singer.

The news follows the release of the 911 call, where dispatchers and officers describe the chaotic incident in real time.

One dispatcher can be heard saying: ‘A black sedan, erratic braking, swerving and driving with no tail light.’

‘Can we send all units down towards this area please,’ another officer requests, as colleagues provide updates on the vehicle’s location.

Officers identified the car as a ‘2026 black BMW convertible,’ and the call captures them tracking Spears before finally pulling her over.

The pursuit reportedly began around 8.13pm, with Spears driving in and out of the freeway lanes.

Around 9.13pm, dispatch confirms: ‘Driver is out of the vehicle.’

Moments later, officers can be heard speaking with Spears, describing the situation: ‘Talking with the driver,’ one officer says.

Once Spears was stopped, officers can be heard discussing the next steps on the CHP call.

One officer requests a DRE – a Drug Recognition Expert specially trained by the California Highway Patrol to assess whether a driver is impaired.

In the recording, another officer is heard trying to get the DRE to the scene as quickly as possible.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Spears’s representatives for comment.

Shortly after the 911 dispatch call was made public, a source told TMZ that, in addition to suspected DUI, an unknown substance was reportedly found in Spears’s car and will be included in the arrest report.

Following the arrest, a representative for the singer told the Daily Mail: ‘This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in the long-overdue changes that need to occur in her life.

‘Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.

‘Her boys are going to be spending time with her, and her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue plan to set her up for success and wellbeing.’

Spears has two sons with her ex-husband Kevin Federline – 20-year-old Sean Preston and 19-year-old Jayden James – who live in Hawaii with their father.

Just last month, Spears was spotted behind the wheel of her Mercedes SUV, appearing to break the law as she held her cell phone to her face.

On February 12, she was photographed taking a spin around Los Angeles while appearing to be talking on the phone, which is illegal in California under the ‘No Touch’ law (Vehicle Code 23123.5).

She was not charged in relation to the incident.

It was, however, not an isolated incident for Spears, who, in recent months, was filmed swerving into the wrong lane on a highway after a night out. At the time, sources feared she was ‘spiraling’ amid the release of her ex-husband Federline’s memoir. The two were married from 2004 to 2007.

Her history with the police also included being cited for a hit-and-run (misdemeanor) after hitting a parked car in 2007. This was dismissed after Spears paid an undisclosed sum to the owner, it was reported at the time.

She was also cited for driving without a valid California license in 2008, which was later dismissed by a judge.

In 2023, law enforcement visited Spears’s home regarding a video involving knives, but no charges were filed.

Spears has had very public personal struggles for nearly two decades.

In 2007, the star famously suffered a harrowing breakdown after exhibiting worrying behavior in the months leading up to her infamous psychiatric hold.

The then 25-year-old had fans concerned after she shaved her head and attacked a paparazzi’s car with a green umbrella – before checking into a rehab facility.

The Toxic singer suffered another setback after a disastrous performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, where her performance of Gimme More was heavily criticized by both fans and critics alike.

The toxic hitmaker claimed that her relatives will 'never take responsibility' as she slammed them for 'isolating' her

With her father Jamie, brother Bryan, sister Jamie-Lynn and mom Lynne. The star lashed out at her family four years after she was liberated from her 13-year conservatorship

Jamie insisted his control of Spears's finances, career and personal liberties was to protect her wellbeing, yet his daughter claimed it was 'abusive' and likened her situation to being a 'sex trafficking victim'

Then, in January 2008, she was put under lockdown at a facility after refusing to hand her young son over to ex-husband Federline.

More recently, she has been open about issues with her family. In early February, she claimed she is ‘scared’ of them and ‘lucky to be alive’ in a bombshell social media post.

The pop superstar had lashed out at her family once again, four years after she was liberated from her 13-year conservatorship, which was primarily controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, 73.

The toxic hitmaker claimed that her relatives will ‘never take responsibility’ as she slammed them for ‘isolating’ her.

‘I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I’m scared of them,’ the singer wrote in a lengthy caption.

‘They will never take responsibility for what they did,’ she wrote, adding, ‘We can forgive as people but u don’t ever forget.’

At the end of her post, Spears detailed her latest health blow, stating she hasn’t been able to dance because she broke her toe ‘twice’, four months after she sustained a ‘horrible’ leg injury.

Spears has had a contentious relationship with her family members for years following her 13-year conservatorship that ended in November 2021.

Jamie was initially a co-conservator after the arrangement started in 2008, with the attorney Andrew Wallet serving alongside him until 2019.

The conservatorship was put in place following concerns for her mental health.

Over Christmas, Spears shared a scathing message seemingly directed at her family, after her younger sister Jamie Lynn, 34, posted a holiday snap with Spears’s older son, Sean.
