British boyband star arrested for ‘assaulting woman and child’

A British boyband star was reportedly arrested for ‘assaulting a woman and child’ after police raced to his home when they received an alarming 999 call.

The musician, who has not yet been named but is said to be a household name, was detained and taken in for questioning before being released on bail.

He often appears as a regular guest on TV shows and gives interviews to some of the biggest magazines, according to the Sun.

Officers are said to have issued a ‘Domestic Abuse Protection Notice’ against the star, meaning they had reasonable grounds to suspect there had been abuse.

The protection notice is part of a new initiative introduced this year which allow police to give instructions to the alleged abuser in an effort to protect victims of domestic violence.

Officers are then required to apply for a ‘Domestic Abuse Protection Order’, allowing courts to impose conditions and restrictions on perpetrators of domestic abuse.

But in this case, a magistrate refused to grant the order against the famous musician, who is facing no charge, the Sun reports.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Officers responded and spoke to a woman who said she had been assaulted by a man known to her, approximately two weeks ago.

‘Further enquiries were carried out however there was insufficient evidence to refer the case to the Crown Prosecution Service.

‘Officers authorised a Domestic Abuse Protection Notice. However, a Domestic Abuse Protection Order was not granted by the magistrate.’
