Bonnie Tyler is in an ‘induced coma’ in Portugal after her health reportedly worsened on Thursday.
The legendary Welsh singer, 74, underwent emergency bowel surgery on the Algarve after being rushed to Faro Hospital with a perforated intestine late last month.
Local media said this afternoon that although she had been stable yesterday, her condition had worsened in the last few hours.
Respected Portuguese daily paper Correio da Manha said she was now ‘unconscious’ and breathing with the aid of a ventilator.
It also reported that the Total Eclipse Of The Heart singer had been moved from an intermediate care unit to an intensive care ward.
The newspaper said: ‘Bonnie Tyler is in an induced coma after several days at Faro Hospital following intestinal surgery.
‘According to what we have learned, the singer is unconscious and connected to a breathing ventilator in the intensive care unit.’

It also reported doctors caring for her had admitted to being unable to predict how things would evolve in the coming hours. Bonnie is understood to have been rushed to hospital on April 30.
A spokesman for Bonnie, who divides her time between southern Portugal and the UK, said just the day before: ‘We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery.
‘The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.
‘We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.’
The star is best known for her No1 hit Total Eclipse Of The Heart in 1983 and had four other Top Ten hits including It’s A Heartache and Holding Out For A Hero.
Bonnie competed at the Eurovision Song Contest representing the UK in 2013, coming in 19th with her song Believe In Me.
The 80s legend confessed earlier this year to regular Botox injections but insisted: ‘I’m quite fit for my age, thank God. And I’m never going to retire. I look at Tom Jones. He’s amazing.
‘His voice is as strong as ever — and he’s got ten years on me.’
Speaking to the Mirror last year, she said: ‘I started singing when I was 17 and I never thought I’d still be doing it at this age. I’ve slowed down a little bit, but I know now that I will never retire.
‘Even though I was so lucky because I was in Portugal when the first lockdown was announced, by the end of it, I’d had enough. I was going crazy. I needed to get back out there on the road!’

The Welsh songstress is due to start her European tour later this year.
Speaking in March, Bonnie spoke about pain she’s been having in her knees, which at the time were her only real health concerns.
‘I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows,’ She told Hello!
‘I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything. I do home Pilates, only 20 minutes a day – it’s something I can do in my hotel rooms.
‘I have had problems with my knees; I didn’t have new knees, I had what they call washouts [a surgical knee procedure], which turned out to be very successful. So, hopefully that will last for a long time.’
Bonnie, known for her raspy, husky voice, is married to property developer Robert Sullivan.
The couple split their time between their homes in Portugal and South Wales.
She first bought a property in the Algarve in the 1970s – having fallen in love with the region while recording an album.
In 2009, she knocked down her five-bedroom villa in Albufeira to build a full-frontal glass home with elaborate garden water features.
Speaking about the area, she said: ‘It’s a magical place where you could sail out to sea at midnight and enjoy a barbecue and return to shore in the early hours of the morning to find the local bars still open.’
Bonnie and her husband, who is a former Olympian Judo athlete, also own a number of rental properties in Portugal.
Speaking about her lavish Albufeira property to The Sunday Times in 2023, Bonnie said: ‘In the early 1980s I bought a fully furnished villa down the road between Albufeira and Vilamoura with my husband.
‘A decade ago we flattened it and hired a Spanish architect to design a state-of-the-art house with big windows and a large decking area so that we could enjoy the sea views. Portugal is like paradise. We spend six months of the year there.’

Bonnie has many famous friends in the area who she frequently socialises with.
She explains: ‘We socialise with friends and go out to dinner at one of the many Portuguese restaurants in our area. We used to meet up with Cliff Richard, but he doesn’t have a home in Portugal anymore.
‘He did invite us to stay at his home in Barbados, however. We went out for loads of lunches and dinners with his friends. He even took us to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s house. Barbados was fabulous, although it was quite strange looking out of the window to see Cliff weeding his garden.’
And on their property empire, she added: ‘My husband is very good at investing in property. In the 1970s he and his business partner bought a lot of land in New Zealand.
‘At first we had a cashmere goat farm; then it became a dairy farm.
‘We sold it earlier this year. We also own 65 stables in Lambourn, Berkshire, which we rent to the Jockey Club. We used to own 22 houses in Berkshire, but we’ve sold 17 of them.’
Despite being in her mid-70s, Bonnie has no intention of retiring and will continue to perform in the UK and Europe, where she’ll be heading towards the end of the year.
