Watch the bizarre moment PGA golfer takes off his shirt to take a shot

A PGA Tour golfer has gone viral after taking his shirt off in order to take a difficult shot during the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Michael Brennan, 24, was chasing a second PGA Tour win with his teammate Johnny Keefer at TPC Louisiana in Avondale when he hit a shot into the course-side water hazards in the first round.

The pair were on the par-5 18th when Brennan spurned his second shot, and in order to avoid a penalty stroke, the American opted to take off a surprise piece of clothing.

Rathan than rip off his shoes and socks to avoid getting his feet wet, which is what players normally do in these situations, Brennan opted to take his shirt off.

He then squatted low in order to execute a creative shot that would get his ball away from danger. But things didn’t quite go to plan.

Brennan clearly took more water than ball as he swung his club, and it only went a few metres before sinking back into the reedy pond.

The commentator, at Brennan’s expense, joked: ‘That was not worth it.’

But his co-commentator enjoyed the bizarre moment much more, shouting: ‘That’s awesome. Keep flexing. Keep flexing. Keep flexing ’em.’

The moment has swept the internet, and team-mate Keefer believes that Brennan ‘might get a few DMs’ because of it.

‘I have no idea,’ Brennan said while laughing in response. ‘I don’t know if I’ve been very close.

‘When we were at school, a couple of my team-mates had a video that blew up on our Wake Instagram, but I wasn’t in the video, so I really have no idea. Maybe that by association.

‘I was dropping it if I was just playing in a normal tournament, but Johnny had a birdie putt on the green. So I was, like, “Well, I guess we can try it”. But, yeah, it was fun.’

Luckily for Brennan, the Zurich Classic isn’t your typical tournament. In the first round, both players from their pair play the hole, and the best ball wins.

The bizarre decision didn't pay off though and Brennan got covered in mud and water

Keefer got par on the 18th, which meant that Brennan’s antics were all for nothing.

The duo finished the day on -11, and tied for fourth, after an impressive four birdies and one eagle.

‘I felt like we played really solid,’ Brennan added. ‘On most holes we had looks for birdie. We converted a pretty good number of them, which was nice.

‘It’s good when you feel like you get some good stuff out of the round, and you don’t feel like you leave too many out there. It was solid golf.’
