Barcelona WIN LaLiga with victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid

Barcelona made it back to back LaLiga titles after beating arch-rivals Real Madrid 2-0 to retain the crown.

The Catalan giants have enjoyed another superb season and needed just a point on Sunday to win the league.

And they achieved that with ease as first-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres guided Hansi Flick’s side to their 30th win in 35 league games in 2025-26.

Man United loanee Rashford put Barcelona ahead after just nine minutes as he curled in a stunning free kick, before former Man City star Torres finished off a neat team move nine minutes later.

Alvaro Arbeloa’s side, who have endured an extremely turbulent week, could not muster a response, although Jude Bellingham had a goal ruled out for offside.

Nevertheless, they suffered the ignominy of losing to Barcelona to hand their arch-rivals the title in what has been a disastrous season for Los Blancos.

The result led to jubilant scenes at full-time at the Nou Camp as Barcelona’s players threw their coach Hansi Flick in the air.

The moment was particularly poignant given Flick’s father passed away at the weekend, and both Rashford and Torres ran to the German when they scored.

Speaking after the game, Flick was emotional as he reflected on the triumph.

‘I will never forget this day,’ he said. ‘It was a tough day for me to start with, with my father passing away, but here my team is fantastic.

‘I really love it, it’s like a family and they gave everything today and I’m really proud, but also the fans are fantastic.

‘It’s amazing in this stadium and also to win LaLiga in El Clasico against Real Madrid.

‘It was not easy, everyone thought “OK, we can win this”, but Real is a fantastic team and we played really good.’

Flick’s side have won 11 games in a row on their way to the title, and they now sit 14 points clear of Real after winning all of their home matches this season.

This was Barcelona’s 29th league title, and they are now just seven behind their arch-rivals’ total of 36.

Chants of ‘Championes, Championes’ reverberated around the Nou Camp, and singer Olivia Rodrigo was watching on, with her logo on Barcelona’s shirts for the night as part of their partnership with Spotify.

Meanwhile, the events of Sunday all added up to an extremely brutal period for Real, whose manager Arbeloa is now under huge pressure.

It emerged earlier this week that Federico Valverde was taken to hospital after an altercation with Aurelien Tchouameni, the second row in two days between the pair.

Kylian Mbappe, who missed El Clasico through injury, also drew the ire of fans for flying off to Sardinia with his girlfriend before their win over Espanyol last week when he was given time off as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

It had similarly been reported that he recently clashed with an unnamed member of the club’s coaching staff, with the Frenchman said to have spoken angrily and insultingly towards the individual during training.

Elsewhere, Alvaro Carreras and Antonio Rudiger were reportedly involved in a physical altercation, impacting the mood around the club even further in a season that will end without a trophy.
