Arsenal win the Premier League! Mikel Arteta’s men end 22-year wait

Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions, ending a 22-year wait for the English title since the ‘Invincibles’ team of 2004.

Manchester City drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on Tuesday night, giving the Gunners an unassailable lead at the top of the table after they beat Burnley on Monday.

Mikel Arteta’s men have been runners-up in each of the last three seasons but finally overcame Pep Guardiola’s team to be able to call themselves Kings of England.

The Arsenal squad had gathered at their London Colney training base to watch Man City’s clash with the Cherries in the hope they could be crowned champions.

While the Gunners had kept those plans quiet, footage surfaced following the final whistle of the squad launching into celebrations after their triumph was confirmed.

Arsenal fans, meanwhile, gathered outside the Emirates Stadium in their thousands to toast their long-awaited success.

Their legendary forward Ian Wright was among those at the centre of the celebrations outside the stadium.

More glory could follow next week as they face Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Champions League.

Arsenal will pick up the Premier League trophy after Sunday’s final game away at Crystal Palace, with tickets now gold dust for their most loyal fans.

Arteta and his team have endured mockery over their ‘second again’ position as the Premier League’s bridesmaids but that will now end with their first major trophy win since the 2020 FA Cup, which was Arteta’s first season in charge.

Their last team to win the Premier League was in 2004, when Thierry Henry and Co went unbeaten through the entire 38-game season.

Manchester United, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and even Leicester City have held the title since.

Guardiola offered his congratulations to Arsenal and his former assistant Arteta after City came up short.
