Arsenal 2-3 Man United PLAYER RATINGS

The title race was blown wide open on Sunday afternoon as Manchester United marched on under Michael Carrick, toppling the Premier League leaders away from home.

But who had an off day in the Gunners defence? Whose presence was crucial, and who led Manchester United’s attack again?

Carrick has two wins from two to his name, and they have come against Manchester City and now Arsenal. His team have look revitalised since he took over, having been so poor for so long under Ruben Amorim.

Time will tell where the former midfielder can take United this season, with just the Premier League left to focus on. As for Arsenal, though, it’s two points from their last three Premier League games, and a rut for the table toppers.

Mikel Arteta’s side will be keen to turn around their form soon, and they are now looking over their shoulders at both City and Aston Villa in their bid to win their first top flight title since 2004.

Daily Mail Sport’s ISAAN KHAN and CHRIS WHEELER were at the Emirates to run the rule over the players.

ARSENAL (4-3-3)

DAVID RAYA – 6

Beaten by three goals he could not have done anything about.

JURRIEN TIMBER – 6.5

His pressure on Lisandro Martinez caused the opening goal. Good link-up play with Bukayo Saka.

WILLIAM SALIBA – 6

Stayed on the ball too long at times. Tried to influence play in final third.

GABRIEL – 5.5

An off day. The backline dominance withered in the second-half which will frustrate him.

It was a rare off day for Gabriel in the Arsenal defence, with the Gunners backline struggling in the second-half

PIERO HINCAPIE – 6.5

Strong tackles and made good progress down the left flank. Got the crowd up with his play.

MARTIN ODEGAARD – 7

Good tracking back to make interceptions and put in tackles. Involved in build up to the opening goal.

MARTIN ZUBIMENDI – 5

His awful pass gifted Bryan Mbeumo a goal from nowhere, and the ball evaded him for Patrick Dorgu’s strike.

DECLAN RICE – 7.5

He was everywhere. Made good passes in the final third and tracked back to put out fires in the middle. Workhorse.

BUKAYO SAKA – 6.5

Nice chip to Odegaard in build-up to Martinez’s own goal. Big threat but better end product was required.

GABRIEL JESUS – 6

Nice flicks to connect play. Needed to do more on the ball, though.

LEANDRO TROSSARD – 5.5

Quiet game. Wasn’t able to pierce the backline or make things happen for his team.

MANAGER: MIKEL ARTETA – 6

Made four substitutions at once in desperate bid to claw back the game. Wasn’t enough.

Mikel Arteta (right) couldn't do enough to turn the game around and will now be looking over his shoulder

MAN UNITED – 4-2-3-1

SENNE LAMMENS – 7

Didn’t have any chance with the first goal off the back of Martinez’s right heel from close range, but could perhaps have been stronger on the corner for the second. Great reflex save to keep out Zubimendi’s header early on, and got down low to save Saka’s late shot.

DIOGO DALOT – 7

Did a good marking job on Trossard and Saka when he switched wings towards the end, a week after keeping Doku and Semenyo quiet in the derby. Another solid performance from him.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 8

His height and presence were crucial against the Gunners’ high balls and set-pieces, and did his job superbly until they scrambled in the second goal. Made some important blocks too, notably on Zubimendi’s effort in the first half.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 6.5

Got his body shape wrong when Odegaard diverted Saka’s cross goalwards, and put the ball into his own goal under pressure from Timber. Otherwise he was composed and made one great block to deny Rice.

While the presence of Harry Maguire was crucial, Lisando Martinez was composed throughout

LUKE SHAW – 7

Had his work cut out against Saka, particularly in the early stages where Arsenal were dominant and threatened down their right flank. But he will satisfied with how he matched up to his England team-mate.

CASEMIRO – 7

At the end of the week in which it was announced the Brazilian will leave United at the end of the season, he once again demonstrated his importance in big games. Kept a cool head when the Gunners took a stranglehold of the game, and when United had to hold on at the end.

KOBBIE MAINOO – 7.5

Only his second Premier League start of the season but looks like he’s never been away. Covered all areas of the pitch and always looked composed in possession. What was Ruben Amorim thinking keeping him out for so long?

AMAD DIALLO – 6

Didn’t impact the game as much as he can, but put a real shift in pressing the Gunners and helping Dalot on defence.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 6.5

Presented with two chances after Arsenal took the lead, but uncharacteristically placed both wide efforts wide of Raya’s right-hand post. Got an assist on Dorgu’s goal, but on the whole not quite up to his high standards.

PATRICK DORGU – 7.5

The Dane has prospered in a more advanced position and scored his second stunner in the past six games, volleying in off the underside of the bar to put United in front. Could have done better with Hicapie’s cross than head it up in the air in the build-up to the opening goal, but no-one cares about that now. Picked up a knock towards the end.

Patrick Dorgu has thrived in a more attacking position and United will hope his apparent injury is not serious

BRYAN MBEUMO – 7.5

Led United’s attack again and caused Arsenal’s defence all sorts of problems. Followed up his goal in the Manchester derby with another, clinically punishing Zubimendi’s error before half-time.

MANAGER: MICHAEL CARRICK – 8

What can you say? His first two games in charge have ended with wins over the Premier League’s top two. He has had a sensational impact on this United team. Do they have to find someone else to take over in the summer?
