Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul LIVE: Scorecard and round-by-round updates

Follow Mail Sport’s live blog as Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua go head-to-head at the Kaseya Center in Miami.

Anderson knocks out Woodley

For one minute, I forgot I was covering boxing.

MMA legends Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva have just gone blow for blow in the boxing ring, rather than the octagon… it felt strange to watch, I can’t lie.

It has now finished, and well, I think that should be the last time that Woodley decides to try and box.

50-year-old Silva knocked him out fairly brutally. One for the showreel.

Are knockouts allowed?

‘It’s 100 per cent rigged.’

If I were given a dollar or a pound for how many times I have heard that phrase in recent days, I’d have enough to buy a fancy dinner (you thought I was going to say ‘be a millionaire’, didn’t you?).

So many of my friends are convinced there is a clause in the contract for this fight that states Anthony Joshua can’t knock out Jake Paul. Well, that is just a conspiracy; it is not true.

Knockouts ARE allowed.

I have a very strong feeling that we will see one, too.

‘Crowd baying for blood’

The early evidence suggests this is a crowd baying for blood. This fight between UFC legends Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley was barely two minutes old when the boos began.

AJ the Adonis

Anthony Joshua does look in incredible shape ahead of tonight, doesn’t he?

Considering he took the fight on such short notice, the two-time heavyweight champion has really got his act together ahead of this fight.

My colleague Jeff Poweel is in Miami, and has spoken about just how important this fight is for Joshua’s career and legacy.

Have a read, below:

‘One real celebrity’

Forget the VIPs, there is only one real celebrity being paraded around ringside: a giant, fluffy service dog wearing ear defenders.

‘You’re getting knocked out Jake’

Fans have made their feelings clear, shouting “you’re getting knocked out Jake” as the YouTuber-turned-boxer made his way to the dressing room.

Pressure on Joshua

What does this fight mean for Anthony Joshua’s legacy?

This is a topic I have been talking a lot about with colleagues, friends, and even on randomer on the train the other day, in the build-up to this fight.

Joshua is one of this generation’s greatest heavyweight fighters, and I don’t want to hear otherwise from anybody else. Yes, his last few years have been ropey both performance and results-wise, but until he took on Oleksandr Usyk, he was the main man in the heavyweight division.

But now, he’s here, trading fighting the world’s best boxers to a man who only took up boxing for fun in 2018.

The pressure is on Joshua, no matter what; he simply has to spark Paul out early to come away from the ring with respect. Let it go longer than one round and he will be criticised… heavily.

Now to answer the question: yes, I think no matter the result, Joshua will be seen in a different light now.

But will he care? Probably not, he is making A LOT of money.

Joshua: ‘We have a license to kill’

Anthony Joshua, speaking ahead of the fight:

It’s my job, we fight. We have a licence to kill. I’m sure many people don’t understand it, but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. Whatever happens, happens – as long as my hand is raised, that’s what’s important, respectfully.

That’s just what the mentality we have to have as fighters. I don’t know if other fighters think that way. Maybe they’re a bit more tame. The way my mind works. When you’re in the ring, it’s a dangerous thing. Anything can happen.

You hope your opponent leaves the ring safely, but if they don’t, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It wasn’t personal.

Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul – Tale of the Tape

Normally, when it comes to tale of the tapes in boxing’s biggest bouts, both fighters have different categories they are the winners in.

Well, not this time.

It’s pretty clear who wins this tale of the tape, and it’s not the American influencer turned fighter who calls himself the ‘Problem Child’

‘How full will stadium be?’

Inside the Kaseya Center, the atmosphere is building and fans are streaming to their seats. But it will be interesting to see how full this 20,000 arena is come the opening bell. A few fights into the undercard, plenty of tickets were available online for just $31. When they first went on sale, the cheapest was $99.

‘Joshua arrives first looking relaxed’

AJ is the first to arrive, clocking in at 7.53. The former unified heavyweight world champion looked relaxed, shadow boxing to the crowd. While Jake Paul pulled up at 8.34 in elaborate fashion with 6 police bikes escorting him.

Logan Paul, on the other hand, had issues entering the arena… being held up by security for not having credentials to enter the building. However, the issue was soon resolved as he walked in hand-in-hand with wife Nina.

Mismatch of the century?

It has to be, surely?

The fight might be tonight, but it still doesn’t feel real. Are we not in a fever dream? How the hell has Jake Paul landed a fight with Anthony Joshua? Well, we know why, but still.

To me, this is the biggest mismatch we have seen, or will ever see, in the boxing ring.

Joshua is one of the best British heavyweights to have ever graced the sport, while Paul was once beaten on points by Tyson Fury’s brother, Tommy, who isn’t exactly the scariest of professional fighters (if he even is one anymore).

Paul is so far out of his depth he may as well be in a diving pit. If he makes it out of the first round, I’d be utterly stunned.

We just have to hope he comes through the fight OK.

I mean, just look at the size difference. Joshua looks like he is posing with a fan, not with a bloke he is supposed to be fighting.
