Anne Hathaway shocks fans with ‘frozen’ face in new film The Odyssey

Anne Hathaway has long been praised for her classic beauty, but now fans are accusing her of having a little extra help in the aesthetics department.

After the trailer for her upcoming film The Odyssey dropped, some social media users couldn’t help but notice that the 43-year-old’s forehead looked suspiciously smooth.

Even in the more dramatic scenes that require visible emotion and animated expressions, Hathaway’s visage remained noticeably frozen.

Her stoic look has sparked quite the conversation on social media, with some fans accusing her of using too much Botox.

‘The whole point of your job is to act out emotions. Can’t do that with a frozen face!’ commented one.

‘People commenting about her “forehead not moving” due to Botox, and, like, if true, it strikes me more as an indictment of how genuinely horrible Hollywood is to women than it does about Anne Hathaway’s talent,’ added another.

‘They should ban Botox for Oscar nominations the way they ban steroids for the Olympics,’ wrote a third.

Other users on X brought up actress Sydney Sweeney, whose natural, Botox-free forehead in the latest season of Euphoria has won praise from viewers.

‘Can’t believe I’m saying this about Sydney Sweeney but if there’s one thing she did right it was to avoid getting any work done and letting her forehead stay expressive,’ commented one.

However, others argued that Hathaway is in fact all natural, and that screenshots of her seemingly stiff brow were misleading and a result of lighting.

‘This is so clearly a lighting/color grading/resolution issue, and if you look for five seconds you can in fact see lines on her forehead,’ argued one.

Daily Mail has contacted Hathaway’s management for comment.

Despite her line-free face in The Odyssey, Hathaway recently showed off a more emotive visage during a promotional stop for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

While speaking to photographers and journalists at the National Gallery in London last month, the Interstellar star had a more wrinkled brow than she did in The Odyssey, which was filmed throughout 2025.

The Devil Wears Prada star previously went viral back in March for her taut face at the Academy Awards.

Hathaway, who has maintained that she has never gone under the knife, was named ‘the most beautiful woman in the world’ by People magazine in April.

In the accompanying interview, the actress opened up her perspective on beauty.

‘A filmmaker once told me this: Beauty can contain within it ugliness as long as it contains truth. So for me beauty always falls along those lines,’ she answered when asked how she defines what’s beautiful.

The silver screen siren also discussed how she stays in shape, shouting out her personal trainer.

‘I love working out with Monique Eastwood,’ she gushed.

‘She’s a genius. She’s a former ballerina, so she’s put together ballet, HIIT, Pilates, yoga.’

The mother-of-two added, ‘And I’m really lucky I get to have private sessions with her. We’ve been working together for over four years, and she’s just kind of changed everything and made it better.’

Back in March, Hathaway did not want to ‘discuss medical information’ in her interview with Harper’s Bazaar when her youthful looks were mentioned.

However, she did credit her decision to stop drinking alcohol and using Shiseido products – she is a brand ambassador – for her amazing appearance.

In a 2010 interview, she said she did not want Botox because she liked her face to ‘reflect a personality’ and keep the same smile she had as a child.

Despite never confirming any procedures, her youthful appearance has consistently led to speculation from fans and plastic surgeons.

This reached a fever pitch in late 2025 when publications suggested she had ‘tweakments’ like Botox, fillers or a ‘ponytail lift.’

Hathaway is currently busy promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2 and gearing up for the release of The Odyssey.

Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic the Odyssey.

Matt Damon is the male lead as Odysseus, while Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron round out the ensemble cast.
