Amandaland series two launch date is confirmed

Hit BBC series Amandaland has finally had its second series release date confirmed, with the social climbing ‘mumfluencer’ set to return to screens in just a matter of days.

The comedy, which is a spin-off of the award-winning Motherland and was confirmed for a second run last year, stars Lucy Punch as leading lady Amanda and Ab Fab legend Joanna Lumley as her snooty mother Felicity.

The BBC have now confirmed the series will return to screens on May 6 – with six episodes set to air over the coming weeks.

Series two will find Amanda ‘still living in SoHa’, her nickname for the London neighbourhood of South Harlesden juggling her teenage children, her online brand and her collaboration with Kitchen’s Bathrooms and Kitchens.

‘Resigned to staying in the area, she is however thrilled by the opening of a hipster coffee shop which to her mind represents a step towards gentrification,’ the synopsis teases.

‘By mid-series, Amanda’s head has been turned by discovering a big house in the area is up for sale. Desperate to own it, she turns to her mother – only to discover that getting Felicity on board financially comes at a price.

‘Her mum may seem evergreen, but is definitely starting to show signs of ageing so maybe living alone is no longer an option…

‘Fellow divorcee Mal is still Amanda’s basement neighbour and that tiniest of romantic frissons has not disappeared. This series we also meet his ex, no-nonsense Abs, with whom Amanda struggles to connect.

‘Mal’s unlikely bromance with Abs’s new husband JJ continues, while Fi starts to find her calling as a professional dog walker when Della goes off to work on a cruise.

‘And of course Anne remains Amanda’s loyal and long-suffering best friend, as they all navigate the challenges of parenting teenagers – through exams, relationships and, for the season finale, the school prom.’

Speaking of the show’s return, actress Lucy, 48, teased: ‘There are some fantastically funny new characters, and more hilarious storylines with the ones we already know and love.’

Mal actor Samuel Andersona dded: ‘We can expect to see one of the best comedies in recent history go from strength to strength.’

Amandaland made its return to screens last month with a Red Nose Day sketch, which saw Lucy back in the role ahead of series two.

The skit followed mum Amanda Hughes as she was invited for a collaboration on Radio 2 with her friend Anne (Phillipa Dune).
