Footballer who died aged 19 in crash scores ‘last goal’ from coffin

A teenage footballer who died in a crash has scored a ‘last goal’ after his team-mates used his coffin to strike a ball at his funeral.

Alexander Zaracho, 19, from Paraguay, reportedly died after a speeding motorist hit the motorbike on which he was a passenger. 

Local media claims that Zaracho fought for his life in the Itaugua National Hospital for several months before the striker passed away. 

The day after his death, his family, friends, and team-mates took his coffin to the home ground of Club 30 de Agosto in Capiata to give him a footballing send-off. 

His casket was placed on the penalty spot and oen team-mate kicked the ball against it so that it bounced into the net. 

Everybody then applauded before white balloons were released.

A spokesperson for the club said: ‘His departure leaves an immense void in our club and in all those who shared time with him on and off the field.

‘Alexander was an example of leadership, commitment, and camaraderie, values that will forever remain in the club’s history.

‘Rest in peace, captain.’
