Alan Titchmarsh buys £2.6m luxury five-bed home from Omaze winner

TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh bought his new £2.6 million Surrey home from an Omaze winner who was handed the keys after buying a £10 raffle ticket.

Mr Titchmarsh, 77, and his wife Alison moved to the luxury five-bedroom property last November after downsizing from their grand manor house, where they had lived for more than two decades.

The couple purchased the property from winner Rachael Reid so they could be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Ms Reid, 55, and her husband Darren, 57, won the house near Farnham in 2024.

They initially enjoyed their new pad, complete with indoor heated swimming pool, before deciding to sell up to move back to Scotland to be with family.

Ms Reid, a childcare worker from Inverness, told how the sale would ‘change everything for the entire family’.

She added: ‘I still can’t believe it really happened to us – winning a multimillion pound house in Surrey has changed our lives forever.

‘We’ve really enjoyed spending time at the house – it’s been magical and the whole family has loved it.

‘All the locals have been lovely and welcoming – it’s a fantastic area.’

As well as the home, as part of the prize she also won a significant cash payout that allowed her husband to retire from his job in the energy industry – a role which had kept him away from home for weeks at a time.

When the family moved in in 2024, the property had been recently renovated and featured a detached pool house complete with a shower, gym, and sauna.

It has a large entrance hallway, which leads into a drawing room with a vaulted ceiling which overlooks the back garden.

Meanwhile, the kitchen and dining area boasts oak flooring throughout, and the kitchen has an island with breakfast bar and a wide range of fitted Siemens appliances.

The one-storey home is nestled in secluded setting, covering 1.4 acres, and has an outdoor kitchen as well as landscaped grounds and a large wooded area.

The house was originally listed for just under £3 million but is thought to have been sold to the Titchmarshes for £2.6 million.

Speaking to House Beautiful last month, Mr Titchmarsh said: ‘The house is wonderfully modern and completely different from the Georgian farmhouse where we were before.’

He added: ‘It’s a single-storey dwelling that’s quite long, but we’re refusing to use the B-word because we have five steps! It’s a different way of life and quite exciting. It’s liberating.’

The gardener’s former home was listed for sale at just under £4 million, but has since slashed the price to £3.5 million.

The property, first built in 1690, was home for the couple for 23 years and is set in four acres of land.

‘All the rooms have been beautifully done, but you still have all the original features, which is what makes it so lovely,’ said listing agent Tara Boulton, associate director of Savills Country House Department.

‘It’s a very pretty Grade II-listed Georgian house, situated at the edge of the popular village surrounded by open farmland. It has wonderful outbuildings with a huge amount of space.’

The house has five bedrooms, three reception rooms and a wine cellar, as well as several outbuildings including a 42-foot barn.
