Alan Brazil reveals he has had a ‘life-saving operation’

TalkSPORT presenter Alan Brazil has revealed that he has recently had a ‘life-saving operation’ and that ‘it will be some time’ before he’s back to full health.

The 66-year-old has been off-air from presenting his regular Breakfast Show due to ongoing health issues, which were unclear until Monday morning.

However, Brazil gave an insight as to what he has been going through via an emotional update on his X account.

‘Hi guys, I hope that everyone’s well,’ the statement began.

‘Some of you will have noticed that I’ve not been around. I recently had a life-saving operation and I’m deeply grateful to the brilliant medical team who have looked after me.

‘It will be some time yet before I’m fully back to myself and for now I am focused on my recovery in private. Thank you to my family and those close to me who’ve been supporting me/putting up with me!

‘I’ll see you all soon. Al.’

Brazil’s post saw a flood of well-wishes come his way instantly. The Scot shared the message on Instagram too and on their many of his talkSPORT colleagues sent their support.

Shebahn Aherne wrote: ‘Love you big Al. See you very soon, we all miss you xx.’ Her sentiment was matched by Katie Shanahan who commented: ‘Sending lots of love Big Al, we all miss you! Get well soon xx.’

‘Get well soon legend we miss you xx,’ wrote Jamie O’Hara, while Gabriel Agbonlahor posted a loveheart emoji.

The ex-footballer’s update comes almost two months after he was forced to miss presenting for talkSPORT during the final two days at Cheltenham Festival. At the time he was reported as being unwell.

He had previously had a spell off air in January due to illness too.

Brazil has presented the Breakfast show since the radio station launched in 2000, cutting back his hours in 2020.

Five years ago he was forced to take a break while he had a heart operation and said before his return: ‘I had a little problem, whether it was Covid related or, I don’t know, fast living catching up with me, but I ended up in a couple of hospitals. I had a little sort out in the old ticker but I’m pleased to say I’m on the mend.’
