Tottenham star delivers fresh injury update after ‘frustrating’ period

Dominic Solanke has provided an update on his injury problems.

The Tottenham star, 28, has endured a frustrating start to the campaign after suffering an ankle issue in pre-season.

The striker featured off the bench in the UEFA Super Cup and in the first two Premier League games of 2025-26, but he has been absent since.

Solanke returned to training two weeks ago, but he has continued to experience pain and has not made the step up to match action.

As a result, the Spurs star underwent minor surgery earlier this week to address the injury, meaning he missed their 2-2 draw against Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday, and he will definitely be absent for Saturday’s clash at Leeds.

And Solanke has now provided fans with an update on his ongoing battle with his ankle issue, revealing when he expects to return.

Solanke has been struggling with an ankle issue he suffered in pre-season over recent months

Taking to his Instagram story on Wednesday evening, the England forward posted: ‘Hi everyone, quick update about my current situation.

‘The last few months have been very frustrating as I’ve tried everything possible to try and push through my ankle issue before taking the option of surgery.

‘None of this managed to solve the problem, so we had to go ahead with minor surgery which I underwent this morning.

‘It was all successful so hopefully I’ll be back on the pitch in the very near future. Thank you for all your love and messages.’

Speaking ahead of their clash in Norway this week, Spurs boss Thomas Frank defended the club’s handling of Solanke’s injury and added that a timeframe on his return to action would become clearer in the coming weeks.

‘I think if you can look from two ways,’ Frank said after some suggested the club had wasted time by not making Solanke undergo surgery earlier.  ‘That’s the easy answer, but it’s not that easy.

‘If we knew we could have done the surgery a month ago, we probably would have done it.

‘So for me, I’m always like I imagine,”oh, it is what it is, we deal from now”.

Spurs boss Thomas Frank also defended the club's handling of the striker's lingering issue

‘No doubt that the way we dealt with this is because we thought this was the right way because I think in general, no one wants a surgery, no matter how small it is.’

Solanke has scored 16 goals and added eight assists in 48 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Bournemouth for a fee rising to £65million in the summer of 2024.

In his absence, Richarlison has impressed while leading the line. Mathys Tel has filled in too, with summer signing Randal Kolo Muani having also struggled with injury.

Frank’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier League after six games. After taking on Leeds ahead of the international break, they face top flight matches against Aston Villa and Everton later this month.
