Ryanair flight diverted after passengers ‘eat passports’

A Ryanair flight was diverted after a passenger reportedly ‘ate his passport’ and another attempted to flush one down the toilet.

Around 15 to 20 minutes into the journey from Milan to London-Stansted, two men began to behave ‘strange’, an anonymous source told the Daily Star.

Shortly after the seatbelt signed was switched off, one of the men, who was seated at the front of the plane, reportedly ripped pages out of his passport and ate them, causing passengers to ‘freak out’.

Meanwhile, another man attempted to ‘flush his passport down the toilet’.

‘Staff were notified and went to see what was going on at the front of the plane,’ the source told the publication.

‘Suddenly, the whole mood changed – no one onboard knew what was going on; these people were acting weird.’

A flight attendant reportedly knocked on the toilet door and tried to convince the man to stop flushing the important travel document down the loo.

A flight attendant made a ‘blunt’ announcement to the entire plane over the tannoy about what was taking place, which apparently ‘freaked out’ passengers.

Eventually, the flight was diverted to Paris, which the source called ‘the most terrifying 15 minutes of my life’.

When the plane landed, French authorities were waiting and reportedly arrested the two men.

The plane then continued its journey to London after the two-hour incident.

The source said Ryanair handled everything ‘amazingly’.

The Daily Mail has approached Ryanair for comment.

Just last month, an American Airlines flight was forced to divert 600 miles because of a fuel leak.

Hundreds of travellers were caught up in the chaos after the Boeing 777 plane from Texas to Paris re-routed to Tennessee due to a mechanical issue on August 31.

Flight tracking services show the plane set off from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport at 1.15am local time.

The plane was airborne for just over an hour.

Crew members reported a mechanical issue which one passenger confirmed to the Daily Mail was a fuel leak. The plane was diverted to Nashville International Airport.

Passengers said they were then de-planed and loaded onto a recovery flight to their final destination, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport in France, an entire day later.
