Andre Onana shows Ruben Amorim what he’s missing out on with assist

Andre Onana channelled his inner Xavi by providing a pinpoint assist for Trabzonspor in his second match after joining the Turkish club on loan.

The goalkeeper was given free roam of his defensive third and took the time to pick out a lethal long-range ball behind the defence to Paul Onoachu, who finished his dinner delightfully.

Onoachu, who joined Trabzonspor permanently from Southampton this summer, nicked the ball past the goalkeeper before dinking his shot over two defenders.

Ruben Amorim may have watched with a hint of bewilderment and wondered why Onana, 29, never provided an assist for the Red Devils before being cast out on loan.

Onana joined United for £47.2million from Inter Milan two years ago but fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford behind Altay Bayindir and unused new boy Senne Lammens.

And he has already set about making an impression – with positive and negative inflections – since landing in the picturesque Trabzon Province.

Onana earned man of the match for his debut in a 1-0 defeat by Fenerbahce after making eight saves but the viral moment from that game was another error.

The Cameroonian did well to get down to a snap shot but spilled the ball across the face of goal, which led to Fenerbahce scoring.

At half-time, Onana gave a rousing speech which seemed to get his team-mates riled up for the second half, though ultimately they didn’t find an equaliser.

‘We have to win this match for this man,’ he shouted, gesturing to team-mate Okay Yokuslu, who had been sent off. ‘We have to win this match for this man.

‘We can do this if we stay together. I know it’s hard. We have to do this.’

They didn’t get back in the game in the end, but the speech was testament to Onana’s eagerness to be a leader at his new club.

In his second match, the 1-1 draw with Gaziantep, he only had to make one save but the assist stands out.

His loan is set to last a season but does not include an option or obligation to buy.
