High school girls fighting for life after team’s bus rolls over

Six high school girls have been left fighting for their life after a bus carrying their softball team crashed in Oklahoma. 

The Minco Softball girls team were onboard the bus when the terrifying ordeal unfolded on Monday night on Highway 152 near Minco, Grady County, 40 miles southwest of Oklahoma City.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol there were 13 people on board at the time, with six of them said to be in a critical condition. 

Images captured at the scene by Newson6 show the yellow school bus in a ditch on the side of the highway, the vehicle rolled several times before coming to a stop.

A picture of the team has since been shared by officials in Minco, who said: ‘Our hearts are with the Minco Softball girls, their families, and coaches today and the days to come as we hope to hear great news following a terrible accident.

‘It has been a scary evening for our whole community. In Minco, we are more than a town, we are a family. When one of us hurts, we all hurt.’

First responders said multiple people on the bus were ejected during the horrifying situation.

According to KOCO, the driver of the bus, who is also the coach of the team, was injured in the crash.

School district Superintendent Kevin Sims posted online after the crash saying: ‘This evening, our Minco Softball team was in a serious accident west of Minco.

‘Multiple individuals on the bus were severely injured. We will be closing school tomorrow. We will also provide updates as we are permitted.’

He continued: ‘Please keep these student-athletes, coaches, and their families in your prayers.’

State Senator James Lankford posted on X saying: ‘Cindy and I join all of Oklahoma in praying for our neighbors in Minco tonight. 

‘May God give healing and comfort to each of the players and passengers, their families, and the entire community.’ 

Grady County Sheriff Gary Boggess said: ‘Our thoughts and prayers go out to the student-athletes and coaches from Minco Schools tonight. 

‘God definitely had his hand of protection on each one of them. Please keep each student-athlete and coaches in your prayers.’

It comes after a tour bus crashed in upstate New York while travelling from New York City to Niagara Falls, killing five people.

The bus had traveled to the popular tourist site, on the border with Canada, for the day and was heading home when the accident took place. 

Police believe the bus went into the median and overcorrected, causing the rollover crash on I-90 near Pembroke, around 25 miles east of Buffalo. 

Fifty-four people were on the bus when it crashed and no children were killed,  the passengers were of Indian, Chinese and Filipino origin, authorities said.
