Wrexham striker sends 14-word message to fans after agreeing loan move

  • Paul Mullin played a key role in Wrexham’s promotions up to League One
  • The forward did not feature in a League One game for the club after January
  • LISTEN to Whistleblowers: Are Arsenal fans right to think they’ve been aggrieved by the fixtures?

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has agreed to join Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan.

The 30-year-old, who joined Wrexham in 2021 and helped the club achieve back-to-back promotions, fell out of favour at the Racecourse Ground last term.

The Red Dragons were promoted once again at the end of last season after finishing second in League One but Mullin contributed just three goals and featured in 26 games.

He was not involved past January after a reported disagreement with manager Phil Parkinson. The January signings of Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez saw Mullin increasingly marginalised.

Mullin took to social media after the move was confirmed by Wrexham on Monday and urged everyone at the club to continue their startling rise up the English football pyramid.

A caption over an image of a jersey commemorating his 100th goal for the Welsh club read: ‘All the very best to everyone at Wrexham this season keep the train rolling.’

Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has agreed to join Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan after falling out of favour

There were reports of a falling out between Phil Parkinson and Mullin earlier this season

Mullin took to social media on Monday and urged everyone at the club to continue their startling rise up the English football pyramid

In a statement on the club’s website, Parkinson said: ‘I’d like to wish Paul all the best for his loan move.

‘It’s a good opportunity for him to get back to playing regular first-team football and I’m sure he’s going to be a great signing for Wigan Athletic.’

Wrexham’s signing of Plymouth Argyle forward Ryan Hardie last week placed further question marks over his future.

Mullin has scored 110 goals for the club in 172 matches. He was the side’s top goalscorer and Player of the Season in his first three campaigns.
