How mom’s ‘delusion’ led to three tragic deaths in Colorado wilderness

A teenage boy who tragically died alongside his mom and aunt after they went ‘off-grid’ during the Covid pandemic died because of a ‘delusion suffered by his mother’, an insider said.

Talon Vance’s remains were found in an advanced state of decomposition in July of 2023, 11 months after his mother Rebecca Vance took him to the remote Colorado wilderness to live.

His devastated father, Eric Burden, recently attended a lecture by journalist Ted Conover, who reported on and uncovered gruesome details about the tragedy at the time.

Conover published a book, Cheap Land Colorado, in 2022 about people living an off-grid lifestyle. In an opinion piece for the San Francisco Chronicle, he said that ‘Talon died because of a delusion suffered by his mother.’

Vance had quit her job during the pandemic and pulled Talon from school, opting instead to teach him online from their apartment while she descended further into rabbit hole conspiracy theories.

By the end of August 2022, she had convinced her sister Christine to move to the wilderness and go ‘off-grid’ with her and Talon.

Talon had been instructed to learn knot-tying and survival skills on YouTube, and Vance collected plenty of seeds which she intended to plant in the wilderness for them to survive on.

But she didn’t consider the timing of her seeds, nor the fact that they’re difficult to grow at 10,000 feet.

The trio all died in the same are, but likely at different times, battling starvation, diarrhea and the harsh weather conditions.

Their bodies were discovered just a few hundred yards from a U.S. Forest Service campground.

Survival guides and empty food tins were scattered across their wooded campsite, according to the Gunnison County Coroner’s office autopsies. No heaters were found in their tent which had been covered in snow during the winter.

The teenage boy weighed about 40 pounds – around a third of the average weight for a child his age.

Talon had, prior to going off grid, spent plenty of time with his father, paternal grandmother and two step-siblings.

But his father was never listed on his birth certificate or school forms.

The trio were ill equipped to survive the harsh conditions and died of starvation, diarrhea and the harsh weather

An old acquaintance had contacted Vance months before she went off-grid, hoping to catch up. Her response led him to call the authorities when she fled to the wilderness.

‘I know I probably sound like a ‘conspiracy theorist,’ but there are insane plots to take away our soul and humanity,

‘If you’ve never heard about the Great Reset, WEF, 4th Industrial Revolution, then please look up Yuval Noah Harari, Klaus Schwab, and their agenda.’

A final text to another friend read: ‘They really want to merge man with machine, and I refuse to let them do that to me or my son… I don’t know when all of this will happen, but I think it’s important for people to get out while they still can.’
