‘Body found’ outside in Canary Wharf near migrant hotel

A body has been found outside a skyscraper in Canary Wharf, London, near a controversial migrant hotel.

A forensic tent and cordon were erected outside Sirocco Tower, Harbour Way, a 32-floor skyscraper, on Wednesday, August 13, as emergency services attended the scene.

The incident occurred less than half a mile away from the four-star Britannia International Hotel where migrants were moved to under the cover of darkness earlier this month.

Tower Hamlets Council confirmed the Government intended to use the hotel – which has around 500 rooms – for asylum seekers in a move that has angered anti-migrant protesters and guests whose bookings have been cancelled.

A resident said they heard sirens in the area at around 6am this morning but the exact nature of the incident is not yet clear.

The Daily Mail has approached emergency services for more information.

The migrant hotel in Canary Wharf has been at the heart of protests for almost two weeks.

On Friday, swarms of anti-migrant protesters descended upon the migrant hotel and footage showed protesters battling with police outside the accommodation in east London.

Officers were seen pinning some activists to the ground, with two arrests made.

This is a breaking story, more to follow.
