Car giant issues huge recall over crash safety fears

Car giant Ford is recalling nearly 200,000 of its cars, after it found there was a risk of passengers being trapped in back seats during accidents.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it is asking owners of Mustang Mach E cars built between 2021 and 2025 to return their vehicles temporarily.

On top of the nearly 200,000 cars is recalling, it is also recalling about 2,272 vehicles of certain 2025 Bronco variant due to an air bag deployment issue.

It comes just days after it announced it was recalling more than one million cars over safety concerns with the rear camera system.

The firm said the problem with the SYNC 4 system was a one that made the cameras freezem lag or outright fail to activate when the vehicle is put in reverse.

It added that this was a ‘significant risk to road safety’ that could heighten the likelihood of accidents, and acknowledged it was ‘aware of one allegation of a minor crash resulting in property damage.’

The affected models include the Ford F-150 (2021–2024), Bronco (2021–2024), Edge (2021–2024), Mustang Mach-E (2021–2023), and several others across the 2021–2025 model years.

Despite the recall notice, it said that the issue would be fixed with a software update, meaning Ford owners won’t have to visit local dealers to get rid of the problem.

Just last month, more than 270,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigators were recalled over possible faults with the brake system.

And back in February, roughly 240,000 Explorer and Lincoln Aviators were recalled over issues with the seat belts.

Research indicates that of all the major car makers, Ford is the manufacturer with the most vehicle and equipment recalls.

Between January 2024 and March 2025, Ford issued 94 recalls for 5.69million vehicles.

But Tesla reportedly took the top spot for vehicles affected by recalls, even though the Elon Musk car firm issued just 20 recalls.

Tesla was forced to call back nearly 5.8million cars. While most issues were sorted out using software updates, nearly 40,000 were called back to a high risk of trim detaching from the cars.
