This Morning’s Michelle Elman hits out at Jamie Laing

This Morning star Michelle Elman has called out Jamie Laing after his recent podcast clip went viral after he discussed having sex post birth with his wife Sophie Habboo.

In the clip, which now appears to have been removed from the original recording of the episode, Jamie brings up how he asked Sophie to have sex just three weeks after she gave birth to their son Ziggy.

He recalled: ‘You were like, are you kidding me?’ before Sophie went on to imitate her husband’s reaction as she cried: ‘You stamped your little arms and legs, and you were like “I’ve waited a year,” and I was like, firstly, I actually physically cannot, I have stitches all over me down there.

‘Secondly, I have to be signed off by the doctor, and you’d be like, “Oh, that’s bullshit, always an excuse with you”.’

Resharing the clip, Michelle was quick to criticise the way the couple poked humour at the situation as she raised the importance in recognising boundaries and the dangers of having sex too soon after birth.

Taking to TikTok she told followers: ‘You know what’s more important than your need for sex? Your wife’s health, safety, and medical well-being.

‘Sophie had a C-section, and doctors tell you to not have sex six weeks after an abdominal surgery for a reason. And whilst they’re both laughing, I don’t think it’s funny to prioritise your pleasure over your wife’s pain.’

She continued: ‘Saying she always has an excuse implies she needs a reason to say no. And even if she is your wife, that doesn’t equate to automatic access to her body. You can be someone’s spouse and you are still not entitled to sex.

‘When someone sets a boundary with you, which is what this is, it should never turn into a negotiation, especially around sex.’

Making a more general point about consent she explained: ‘When someone says no, accept their first no. If you have to throw a strop, coerce someone, or convince someone, then that’s not consent, and it’s certainly not enthusiastic consent. If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no.’

The Daily Mail have contacted Jamie’s representatives for comment.

Taking to the comments, fans seemed equally uneasy about Jamie’s comments as they penned: ‘changed my opinion of him’;

‘Thanks for talking about this – it’s so wrong!’; ‘This is not funny’; ‘This is such a badly judged podcast’;

‘I F*****G HATE MEN THAT CANT WAIT 6 DAMN WEEKS. WTF IS WRONG WITH THEM!!!!’

The latest clip comes just a few weeks after Jamie also came under fire for posting a video of his six-month-old son Ziggy travelling in the back of a car without being properly secured.

The clip shows his wife Sophie Habboo, 31, cradling Ziggy as they travelled down a road, but he wasn’t secured in a car seat or baby seat. Sophie also wasn’t wearing her seat belt it appeared.

While it’s not known where the clip was taken, in the UK, children must be secured in an approved car seat with an internal harness until they reach 12 years old or 135 cm tall.

However the Government website states that the rules differ for children under three if they are travelling in a taxi – which the family appear to be doing in this case.

It states: ‘If the driver does not provide the correct child car seat, children can travel without one – but only if they travel on a rear seat.’

Jamie, 37, had posted the segment of video footage as part of a longer montage to mark six months since they welcomed Ziggy and to shower Sophie with praise as a mother.

After comments pointed out the lack of seat belt in the clip, Jamie deleted that section of the montage and uploaded it to Instagram again without that part in.

After the clip was uploaded again one comment underneath read: ‘Nice to see you have removed the irresponsible clip with Sophie holding the baby in the car, without a carseat or even her seatbelt on. It would be wise to address the elephant in the room and maybe admit you have been irresponsible and will take more care going forward… I really hope you do, as no baby or child deserves to die in a crash.’

Another read: ‘I’m so thankful you posted the original unedited video before this. I’m hoping it made you realise how utterly irresponsible you have been. Your baby has no voice to question you when you travel without a baby seat OR a seatbelt.’

A representative for Jamie has been contacted by the Daily Mail for comment.
