New York Knicks pull off greatest comeback in NBA Finals history

In one of the most extraordinary performances in NBA Finals history, in front of the likes of Taylor Swift, Timothee Chalamet and Adam Sandler, the New York Knicks came from behind to beat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106, and take a 3-1 series lead.

Nobody believed it. Nobody could. Not when they were down by 29. Not when the Spurs were shooting the lights out. And not when MSG had fallen eerily silent.

But the Knicks never gave up. And on Wednesday night, they ended up producing a performance that will go down in basketball folklore as ‘The Miracle of Madison Square Garden’.

However, it all could’ve been so different. The Spurs were ferocious from the opening tip, outscoring New York 41-22 in a first quarter that left MSG stunned into silence.

Victor Wembanyama led the way, racking up 16 first half points with an authority that made the whole thing feel hopeless for those inside Madison Square Garden.

And a 35-27 Spurs second quarter extended the lead to 27 – the largest halftime lead by a road team in NBA Finals history. At the break, the scoreboard read Spurs 76, Knicks 49. It looked, for all intents and purposes, like it was over.

But the third quarter gave the crowd a glimmer. Brunson and Anunoby began to find their rhythm, the Knicks outscoring San Antonio 26-14 to cut the deficit to 15.

The fourth quarter was unlike anything this building has witnessed in a generation.

The Knicks came out with a desperation that transformed the complexion of the game and the crowd, sensing something extraordinary was unfolding, responded in kind.

Every basket was met with a roar that shook the rafters. Every defensive stop sent 19,812 people into delirium. Slowly, agonizingly, the deficit began to close.

Jalen Brunson was the heartbeat of it all. Alongside him, Anunoby was magnificent, and when they finally regained the lead, the Garden simply lost its mind.

And they were not alone in their disbelief.

Courtside, Taylor Swift was on her feet, arms raised, screaming, hugging strangers – every bit as lost in the moment as the fans around her. She was later seen in the corridors of MSG leading the wild celebrations with fellow Knicks fans.

Videos circulating on social media showed Swift dancing, singing and embracing staff with an energy that suggested she had been waiting for this moment just as long as the rest of New York.

The pop megastar was taking in the action from courtside without fiance Travis Kelce, who was unable to join her in the Big Apple while on a mandatory three-day minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs in preparation for the 2026 NFL season.

Instead, Swift had a girls’ night at the Garden with her beau out of town as the Knicks avoided a second straight playoff defeat and moved to within one win of the NBA Championship.

Elsewhere in the delirium, Timothee Chalamet looked like a man who had just witnessed a miracle – because he had. Adam Sandler was absolutely beside himself.

There was one notable absentee on Wednesday night, however. Donald Trump, whose appearance at Game 3 had been greeted with a thunderous chorus of boos – and who left having watched the Knicks lose – was nowhere to be seen.

The statistics, at this point, speak for themselves. New York’s record with Trump in the building: zero wins. Without him: unbeaten. Make of that what you will.

In the end, this was not just a basketball game. This was New York history. The kind that gets talked about for generations, replayed on highlight reels until the end of time, and remembered by everyone lucky enough to be inside MSG on the night.
