Ghislaine Maxwell’s cushy fed prison locked down over ‘stolen’ sweater

Ghislaine Maxwell’s cushy federal prison camp was placed on lockdown just because she reported her favorite sweater stolen, the Daily Mail can exclusively reveal.

Jeffrey Epstein’s pampered pimp told authorities at FPC Bryan in Texas that someone had swiped a zip-up fleece she bought for $30 from the jail commissary.

Hundreds of felons were ordered back to their dorms and kept there for hours while guards searched the minimum-security compound.

The hunt was only called off when a red-faced pal of the 64-year-old sex trafficker came forward claiming she found the missing garment on a bench and meant to return it.

‘Max was saying she had her ID badge and important papers in the pockets. But nobody had stolen anything. This lady had picked it up to give it back to her,’ dished a source.

‘It was all an innocent mistake but they still kept everyone locked down for four or five hours for their investigation.

‘They do this a couple of times a month for a fight, a medical emergency or a random count – but never for a lost sweater.’

The incident, which unfolded in February, comes amid reports Maxwell is enjoying ‘special treatment’ in the federal lockup as she serves 20 years for grooming young girls for ex-lover Epstein.

All-female FPC Bryan is considered one of the cushiest and safest lockups in the entire federal network.

Inmates typically share four-bed cubicles with two other cons selected by prison counselors, with the fourth bunk left empty.

But Maxwell shares her living space with just one ‘bunkie.’

‘She uses the extra space for her typewriter, which is another thing that nobody else is allowed to keep in their room,’ said the source.

‘It’s an old electric IBM typewriter. She carries it around with her from the unit to her job at education.

‘When she’s not in the classroom, she leaves a little sign on it saying “do not touch.”

‘She’s using it to write her book – the one she thinks will exonerate her.’

The Federal Bureau of Prisons said it could not comment on individual inmates but insisted staff were prohibited from providing preferential treatment to any prisoners.

‘Any deviation from this standard undermines public trust and the fair administration of justice,’ spokesman Donald Murphy said.

‘Violators may be subject to disciplinary actions, including removal from federal service and criminal prosecution.’

Maxwell was convicted on multiple counts of child sex trafficking in 2021 and began her sentence at FCI Tallahassee, a far harsher prison in Florida.

She was bullied by inmates, badgered about her personal hygiene and even thrown in solitary confinement for giving an unapproved media interview from behind bars.

The disgraced socialite’s fortunes improved dramatically when she agreed to brief the DOJ about her ties to Epstein, who hanged himself in 2019 while awaiting trial.

Maxwell was whisked away to Bryan just days after her sit-down chat with then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

The Texas camp typically houses low-risk criminals rather than sex offenders but Blanche said Maxwell was moved because of ‘numerous threats against her life’ in Florida.

Oxford-educated Maxwell uses up her time hosting female empowerment classes and even has her own classroom in the Adult Continuing Education department.

She sunbathes, plays bingo and does laps of the running track hidden behind black tarps installed along the perimeter fencing to prevent photographers from catching a glimpse.

‘Sunbathing isn’t allowed but it’s obvious what she’s doing because she sits on the benches with her sleeves and shorts rolled up,’ the source said.

‘It’s one rule for the prison queen and another for everyone else.’

Violence is rare inside the 37-acre compound, which houses 635 women who are mostly serving sentences of under five years.

It’s no wonder that Maxwell couldn’t hide her glee when she wrote to a family member last year: ‘I feel like I have dropped through Alice in Wonderland’s looking glass.’

She went on to praise Bryan as orderly, safe and comfortable in correspondence obtained by NBC.

‘The kitchen looks clean too,’ Maxwell raved.

‘No possums falling from the ceiling to fry, unfortunately, on ovens and become mingled with the food being served.’

The Supreme Court rejected Maxwell’s appeal last October.

Her attorney, David Oscar Markus, has called her a ‘scapegoat’ for Epstein’s crimes and said she deserves a pardon.

The Daily Mail reached out to Maxwell’s attorney for comment in relation to the sweater saga.
