Simone Biles adds mystery to health scare that saw her ‘almost die’

Simone Biles has clarified that the medical scare that saw her ‘almost die’ in hospital was due to her health after fans questioned whether she had been attacked on social media.

The gymnastics icon, 29, revealed the scary incident in an Instagram post on Saturday afternoon. She added she was alone because husband Jonathan Owens was in Indianapolis for NFL practices with the Colts.

In a post on her story, alongside a photo of her wearing several hospital wristbands, Biles wrote: ‘I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age.

‘But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week. This was one of, if not the scariest experience of my life, especially since Jonathan was in Indy for practices.

‘I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers.’

In a further post, she shared a photo of herself lying in bed with her dogs, alongside the caption ‘I’ll be here’ and a screenshot of an extremely elevated resting heartbeat.

The ambiguous nature of her post left fans to question what might have caused such a serious health episode.

One fan replied with ‘MDS?’, seemingly referring to myelodysplastic syndromes, while another commented: ‘I wonder if it was health, accident, or violence?’

Biles, an 11-time Olympic gold medalist, quickly responded to the latter’s query by writing ‘health’ alongside a loveheart emoji.

On Friday afternoon, Biles shared pictures from a visit to watch the MLB team St. Louis Cardinals with husband Owens, who threw out the first pitch for his hometown team.

Owens shared her post on his Instagram story, joking that Biles is ‘from the crib now’ – comments that perhaps indicate the scariest part of the ordeal is now behind the couple.

But the news of her scare led to an outpouring of support for the 11-time Olympic medalist, who has not competed since the 2024 Games in Paris, where she won three golds.

Biles currently lives in Texas with her NFL husband Jonathan Owens, who recently signed a one-year, $1.4million deal with the Indianapolis Colts after two years in Chicago with the Bears.

The loved-up pair have built their dream lakeside home from scratch, but Owens was not present for Biles’ health scare given his NFL commitments in the Midwest.

Biles and Owens met in 2020 on the celebrity dating app Raya, in the middle of the coronavirus lockdown.
